I see a lot of Inuyasha in Rinne's face. More specifically, Inu when he's calm and reflective.
I'm guessing that Kagome's friends can only see Sakura, not Rinne or whatever he's chasing cuz of the Yomi no Haori.

Yeah, though she has a few references to some of her stories in other ones, and occasionally you'll see a sign or a movie poster advertising one of her works (Urasei Yatsura had ataru running past a giant firetripper poster [bigger than him] in one chapter), although the charecters don't interact.

Aha...well the joke is that Rinne is incorporeal while he's wearing that flashy haori, so Kagome can see him and the amorphous ghost from panel 2, but her friends can only see Sakura and therefore are wondering why Kagome is having a spaz.

Ooooh! Haha, well, Sakura is a high school girl who's been able to see ghosts and spirits since an incident when she was a kid, and Rinne is her classmate, who is a shinigami (kind of). He's also absolutely dirt fucking poor due to various circumstances, which is often used for humorous effect (for example, Rinne making a comment about how spectacular an amount of money 1000 yen is). Sakura gets involved with Rinne's job, and all sorts of wacky hijinks occur. It's kinda awesome, because Rinne is like...this level-headed, unflappable, deadpan kinda guy who always knows what he's doing, so most of the humor comes from sticking this dude in ridiculous circumstances and having him act totally nonplussed about the whole thing.
