Knossos: Kuh-NOSS-oss. No silent k's here!

Dudes I'm almost a quarter finished already wtf.

Knossos
I TOLD YOU IT WASN'T CRETE.
Introducing Knossos, one of the few female city states. (So far the only others who are female aside from Ionia are Corinth and Megara. IDK about Olympia yet though. OH WAIT Delphi is a girl.) She is also the one with the name that is the most fun to say (A close runner up being SPARTAAAAAA. Discuss.)
Knossos isn't usually this pissed off. She's normally pretty mellow (For my friends in the IAMP she's like the NWT of Ancient Greece). She spends her days chilling out in her spectacular palaces.
Of course, Knossos didn't last very long. She was mysteriously destroyed by *SOMETHING* that historians still don't agree on. It used to be the generally accepted theory that the palaces collapsed after the eruption/earthquake whatever that destroyed Thera (Modern Santorini) but the dates were WAAAY far apart. There is some evidence that Knossos was taken over by the Mycenaeans early on... after which point she stopped making happy little pictures of octopi and dancing people and started making scary hunting and war scene pictures. D:
IDK I FORGET I'll write her a full profile later.
Her clothes are edited so that young'uns like my sister can enjoy this comic and dA doesn't make my colourful gallery boring with filters. XD

Athens wasn't always as obnoxious as he became during the Persian Wars, but since this is mythology/recollections blah blah blah.
Plus he's funnier when he's obnoxious. I'll save his boring timid shut-in self for after the Mycenaean age.

NO BACKGROUNDS TOO LAZY gonna go watch farscape now yayyy

Oh, and I would love to see Megara, Olympia and Delphi. Lots of fun stories to tell about DelphiXD

Megara appears once later in this comic, and Delphi has appeared only recently here: [link]
Regretfully, I have yet to design Olympia, although I keep meaning to. XDD

Do you already have any ideas for him? and do you have plans for designing Troy?

Well, I know Olympia should logically be a man since only men could compete in the Olympics, but other than that I haven't the slightest.
As for Troy, it's been referred to as "the Queen of Asia" so I'll probably take that into account. XD
Of course there might already be ancient personifications of them, so I'll do some research. XD

Cool! I translated a story about a woman, Kallipateira, dressing up as a man to see her son Peisirodos win in boxing, but because her father, brothers and son all had won at the olympics, she didn't get thrown off the cliff when she was exposed.

It would be funny if Troy had a phobia for horsesXD
BTW, I'm watching Troy right now! It's on TV here
Funny how wrong the movie sometimes isXD

Hahahaha! I've heard of that story. XD

Haha, oh man that would be hilarious! :'D
XD I've never seen that movie, but all of my classics professors so far have absolutely hated it. XD (Although my Greek prof still likes 300 for some reason hahaha)

I really want to watch 300, I never have!

I think no movie about Ancient Greece has ever done the era justice, but oh well.

I really hate the new movie Immortals though I have never seen it. I just read the summary on Wikipedia, and it was horrible. They totally f***ed up the myth of Theseus this time. Agh.

Maybe your Greek professor really really really liked king Leonidas?XD

Hahaha, I actually did an English report on it and how it wrongfully demonized/feminized the Persians. It's one of my favourite things to rant about actually. XD It's a fairly well done movie, despite its many many inaccuracies... and the fact it was banned in Iran...

I have some older movies about the Odyssey and Jason and the Argonauts, and they're not terribly bad, haha. XD
BUT THE IMMORTALS oh man I haven't seen it yet but I know I'm going to hate it. I wanted to see it in theatres but my dad said "I'm not taking you if you're going to talk through the whole movie!" XDD;
I watched the remake of Clash of the Titans and it is by far the worst movie I've ever seen. I was sick and it actually made my headache worse! And they're making a sequel to it too...

It's possible, haha. She keeps saying "Did you know they're making a sequel about how the Athenians kick butt at the battle of Salamis? I'm so so so so excited!!!" XDDD

judiejodia In reply to Hapo57 [2012-02-24 21:11:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh I want to see that!
I should watch Clash of the Titans too, just to have a good laughXD

I can see why it was banned in Iran, it kinda mocks their ancestorsXD
I have a friend from Iran, and when we we were learning about Salamis I constantly kept screaming 'The Persians loo-ooost!' at the most random times. And she kept yelling back 'that was thousands of years ago!' everytime I said thatXD. BTW,they still call their language Pharsi in iran. I'm very irritating when it comes to Ancient Greece and Roman stuff, I keep ranting and talking about it tooXD

Hapo57 In reply to judiejodia [2012-02-24 21:55:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's pretty awful how they portrayed the Persians...
of course, that's nothing new. The East has been portrayed that way since at least the 5th century BCE! It's time we started learning more about all the cool things the Persians and the other Mesopotamians were known for, not just Egypt/Greece/Rome!
Hahaha, that's hilarious. XD I'm the same way sometimes, haha. My friend really loves Roman stuff so I always try to piss her off saying "THE GREEKS DID THAT FIRST!" XD

judiejodia In reply to Hapo57 [2012-02-24 22:06:56 +0000 UTC]

lol.

Yeah, the Persians werepretty cool too. I mean, they were the first ones to have agriculture, the first ones to write and they knew so much about calendars, planets and stars and math! I also have read a summary of the gilgamesh story, and i really think Heracles was pictured after him

I don't know that much about them, but they were cool

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hapo57 In reply to judiejodia [2012-02-24 22:12:51 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, well, the Persians took all that from the Sumerians and the civilizations after them, but they still were pretty cool. They didn't use force and terror tactics like the Assyrians did before them, they were relatively friendly. XD

We were doing Gilgamesh in class for the last few weeks, and I can see the resemblance to Heracles, so I think it's pretty true too. XD

Lol, I misread you message. I just spend 15 minutes or so explaining why I thought Gil and Herc were kinda the same, only to read later that you agreeXD

Cool that you actually got to read about him! I gues you also found resemblances to the bible?

Hahahaha, that's funny. XDD

Yes, haha, although I don't know as much about the bible as some of my classmates. It makes my 17th century art history class a bit hard sometimes too because I know more about Greek myths than biblical stories OTL

judiejodia In reply to Hapo57 [2012-02-24 22:47:06 +0000 UTC]

It's a lot easier if you actually grew up with the bible^^
I had some special classes only about 17th centure Dutch and Belgian artists, so awesome! We're making oil paintings ourselves now

But I'm off to bed now, it's almost midnight over here

Hapo57 In reply to judiejodia [2012-02-24 22:48:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's true... -sigh- Oh well, some day teachers will realize that not everyone comes from a religious background XDD;; haha...
That's cool! I've only done oil paintings twice, they're really messy and time consuming, but they can turn out really nice if you work hard. >w<

Good night! :'D

Yep, very time consuming. The paint takes about a week to dry

1. Hahahaha Knossos has to be female, what with them Minoans.
2. Don't worry, eventually he'll become an angry resentful Roman subject and calm down.
