Story:

"You guys have normal sea gulls here..." Addilyn looked at Jennifer with what could best be described as a mixture of shock, confusion, and curiosity.

Jennifer couldn't help but laugh, "What? Do you not have normal sea gulls where you're from?"

"Well I've never lived by the sea before, but I'm sure if we did have sea gulls they would be normal..." Addilyn immediately began regretting mentioning anything at all.

"So, what are you getting at?" Jen raised a brow, curiosity now laid across her own face. Her expression was still gentle, however.

"Well, I know I am new here, but from what I understand and from what I've seen thus far, most of the animals indigenous to this island are..." She paused searching for the most correct word to use, "a bit different."

Jennifer understood now and gave out an, "Ahh," while nodding her head and looking down momentarally. She kicked at the sand with her boot and rested on her hip, overlooking the ocean with squinted eyes. The bustling sound of riders preparing their mounts for the beach classes was nearly muted by the rolling crescendo of waves. Or, perhaps, Jen had just tuned them out.

"We do have some interesting critters here, but I suppose the gulls didn't have to mutate or evolve to survive here. They live here like they would at any beach front, their food isn't much different than elsewhere and their hunting and living habits are arguably the same here as they would be otherwise."

Addilyn forced a smile and began to pet Pan who was standing like a perfect mule angel, "That makes sense. Thank you Miss Jen, sorry for the odd question..."

"No such thing, Addy," Jen patted the young woman on the shoulder, "I understand this place takes some... well, getting used to. But it's your home now, and if you have any questions about it then please don't hesitate to ask." Jen smiled and made her way to the other contestants, checking in with them to make sure everything was going smoothly before the class began.

Addilyn turned to Pan and looked into her eyes that seemed to mirror her own, the blue orbs mesmerizing, "I wish you could talk, Pan." She ran her hand down the mares face, "I bet you could tell me a thing or two about this place." Pan snorted and tossed her head low before raising it again. Her long ears twitched forward and without any warning she surged forward to attack a crab that was scuttling across the sand.

"Pan! NO! Spit it out!"

Jennifer chuckled as she heard the screaming in the background, "Alright everyone, let's get this show on the road!"
