Story:

There was no hesitation around the stable when the Dubai World Cup was coming around the corner. Dallas had known for months that she was going to be entering their Grand Slam winner, Zenyaroah into the prestigious, wealthy race. While Mikah was busy preparing Voshkie for the UAE Derby, she was preparing Christ and Apoca for the Dubai Sheema Classic and Zeny for the World Cup.

The days were filled with collaborative training sessions and the two trainers had been making use of their newly built track overlooking the ocean. Zeny found a particular competitiveness when paired with Christ, and the two seemed to push each others limits. On the other hand, Apoca and Voshkie would train together since they were both more submissive horses that found it difficult to find their drive. Pairing those two together for their exercising was helpful because they didn't intimidate each other. And as the weeks went by, Dallas and Mikah saw a change in their horses. They seemed more confident and relaxed, even starting to push one another. It was a step in the right direction.

The trip to Dubai went without a hitch, and as they were unloading, Dallas couldn't help but admire the glorious buildings. Dubai never got old in her eyes, and she always loved coming back. This was Mikah's first time there and he was in awe, even if he remained professional on the outside. It was simply beautiful.

They let Zeny rest for the day, and the following day it was time for some training. They pulled her out onto the track with Christ again, and practiced as they had at their home track. Christ lead the match race as he had always done, and Zeny kept to his flank as if she were a lingering threat. She knew what she was doing. Soon as they rounded the turn she kicked into gear and the two flew towards the finish line.

When race day came, Zeny was walking to get tacked up when she caught the eye of her competitor, Titan. Titan was much smaller than her, at 15.3hh compared to Zeny's own 16.2hh. While they had both been entered in 17 races thus far, the rival mare was more seasoned as she was one year Zeny's senior, so she had a year of maturity and strength on the younger mare. She also had a short, powerful build with thick neck and shoulder muscles, which was a stark opposite of Zeny's build. Zeny was built more tall and lean, with strong hind quarters and lean legs. The two were both champions in their own right, both Breeders Cup winners, both Pacific Classic winners, and both ready to give it all they had on the track that day. Zeny snorted in solidarity and respect to her opponent, who bobbed her head slightly in response. They would be civil for now, but they were both there to win.

They tacked up and were lead out to the gates where they entered with ease. Zeny pawed at the earth and flicked her ears at the sounds of the metal creaking and slamming. She waited and waited, until that sound rang and she lurched forward. The night sky dazzled with stars as the two Dubai mares made their way from the gates, Titan taking the lead and Zeny staying on her flank like a wolf stalking it's prey.

Love this. The dirt details especially - for not often doing traditional art this looks great! Everything is so well defined and neat. So hard to do with watercolors!

The anatomy is a bit wonky but I am not used to traditional anymore so I am still working on it... and I've always had issues drawing horses facing to the right anyway
But I am glad that you like how it came out!

it's pretty spot on for not doing it often! i have a really hard time drawing them to the right traditionally too LMAO most of my sketchbook doodles are headshots to the left nowadays
