This portrait was a challenge as it involved recreating a portrait in colour, from a small black and white newspaper picture printed over 30 years ago (which I have included at the bottom of the picture as a reference). There was no detail in the dark contrast areas and I recreated these based on some supplied photographs.

However, I really enjoyed working on this portrait and it was very well received, with the family commenting on how good a likeness it was. As always, the portrait was much better in person, and the photograph does not do it justice.

Materials used: Dr Ph Martin's Hydrus liquid watercolours on Eraldo 300 gsm Hot Pressed watercolour paper.
