Description

ok, so i'm getting on the homestretch for, at least, the exteriors for the ship.

things left to texture:

  • impulse crystal mount

  • rear of the "neck"

  • shuttle bay doors

  • window frames

  • area behind the dorsal, aft-facing dock

  • emergency warp core ejection hatch

  • dorsal secondary hull strut (between the nacelles, just before the shuttle bay)

  • space-energy field attraction sensors (pez-shaped things around the deflector)

you can already see that i've started texturing the bridge, including replacing the chairs and setting up proper area lights. but i think i'll hold off doing the rest until the outside is done.

or i get bored.

Clever to illuminate the hangar doors with those built-in strips.
Bonus Multiplier: the correctly-colored running lights that flank the hangar door. A practical, real-world-astronautics touch most folks never think of.

thank you!  although i have to confess that many of those details are on the TMP Enterprise, if you look hard enough.

I confess that the main reason that I mentioned those two delightful details is that they do NOT appear on the TMP Enterprise (a.k.a. Constitution refit). Yes the glowing red windows of Hangar Control feature right above the clamshell doors, but the strips *in* the actual doors, as well as the color-coded running lights in the flanking coves, are not featured.
The color-coded running lights have always been deployed at port and starboard centerlines on the saucer, dating back to ToS, and I believe you yourself have done such on this vessel of yours. The secondary pair appears again on Galaxy class vessels as well, along the trailing edge of the Engineering Hull. I cannot speak to any such lights on Ambassadors or Excelsiors.
Unless, of course, you could link me to some image wherein TMP-era hulls buck this trend?

i'm not sure why i thought this to be true, but you are correct!  i've looked and cannot see any colour-coded running lights on any TMP or even TOS Enterprise images (although i did see one on the the Ambassador-class C).

as for the strips, i apparently misremembered these painted areas/lights:

...and made them into indented strips, which i first used on the Beagle.

(oy....looking at this model now makes me cringe a little...at minimum, i HAVE to rebuild those impulse decks!)
