Description A sketched page which is based on the famous nonsense poem by EDWARD LEAR

THE OWL AND THE PUSSYCAT (1871, United Kingdom)

I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
  In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
        You are,
        You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"

II
Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl!
  How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
            His nose,
            His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

III
"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will."
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
  Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
            The moon,
            The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

I recognized the lovely art before I even read the title.

It wasn't necessary, tho, to do the poem twice.

A sequel was found in Lear's papers.

pea-green was Lear's favorite nonsense color. It symbolized serenity.

Sad that the sequel wasn't finished.

Several fragments of poems turned up among Lear's papers.
These unfinished and/or abandoned items, incl. limericks, were published in TEAPOTS AND QUAILS. I'd love to read it...

If only he'd finished it.

There was a sequel, unfinished, found among Lear's papers after he passed on, and it's sad.

A B & W silent cartoon had Farmer Brown or Grey rush in and frogmarch the cat home. Then somebody to the rescue.

Thank you! I might plan on sketching on the sequel poem that was published after Lear died!

I already sent you a note on that.

You said you'd be making some kind of comic series based on the poem and its sequel.

In this case, you'll need my assistance. At the same time I'm in the same boat as you; I was working on a story based on the poem. Have you seen this? www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLQSKL…

Looks more like an epic than a nonsense tale in this!

That's because the story behind this is inspired partly by Romeo and Juliet, but you'll get what I mean. Here the Owl and the Pussy-Cat are a pair of star-crossed lovers named Percival and Felina, who run away together much to the extreme disapproval of Felina's family.

Hey, I've got a brainstorm! Let's say the owl and cat in your version of the poem are also Percival and Felina. That's part of me helping you with the series!

I guess so! Yet I'm planning them to be like from the poem, but I can still with yours as well!

Yes, with references from the poem, too. I'd like that! Maybe we can collaborate.

And from that other poem, I had some feeling on doing some changes once I am done with the sketches from that poem!
