you should.
I mean, yeah they did some hard rock stuff but some of it was really pretty. My favourite at the moment is Estranged, though Sweet Child Of Mine is also amazing. Metallica's the same. I mean, yeah they do metal but they can write some amazingly pretty and talented stuff like the beginning of "Nothing Else Matters". Yeah you could say I like my music a bit 
They both started back when it was what I'd call proper rock, not the rock of today; it had solos and lyrics and they were the proper ones, the sort that become famous.
Sorry rambled on a bit. But these and bands started by old GNR members such as Slash's Snakepit (does some amazing bluesy rock stuff), Velvet Revolver (which is sorta more modern but still has the same basic formula) and Duff Mckagan's Loaded and Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju hounds (neither of which I know much of yet but like)mean a lot to me...
