Description Scientific name: Terapusmordax obscenus

Classification: Volucerattidae family

Diet: Omnivore

From: Skull Island

Habitat: large caves and crevices.

Population: Thousands

Skull Island's top aerial predator was no bird of prey or some ancient pterosaur, but an enormous bat straight out of our worst nightmares. It is the largest member of a family once to be of rodent descent, but are no known to be most closely related to harmless flying foxes of the Old World, which includes several species. It's hypothesised that a population of flying foxes were forced to adapt to the brutal nature of Skull Island resulting in the Terapusmordax.

Like most species of bats these creatures have excellent eyesight and hearing, very useful when navigating pitch black caves and darkest of nights. When hunting they use echolocation to zero in on prey, when it finds it's target the bat dive bombs like a falcon before snaring it's victim in its long razor sharp talons. It's diet includes other large bats, birds, smaller ground dwelling animals, carcasses, even nuts and fruit. Fatal attacks on humans are not unheard of.

Terapusmordax make their homes in enormous caverns where hang upside down in huge colonies. These colonies are made up of mostly females and their young with smaller males forced to live in smaller bachelor groups. Sometimes the colonies are led by a much larger matriarch. If one were brave enough to get close to one of these colonies, they would be greeted by a repulsive odor, the cave floor covered with enormous amounts of feces or "guano". This releases pungent chemicals which creates a stench so nauseating that it deters most predators from not only the colony but individual "Teras" who are far from the colony. The colony itself as said before are matriarchies with each member working together to roost, forage, and raise their young pups together. Males societies is of constant, aggressive bickering amongst themselves, this aggression can even lead a male to kill pups just to bring the mother back into season. Thus male pups are driven when reaching adolescence. As a result females greatly outnumber males.

These horrid creatures likely arrived onto Monster Island through young individuals smuggling themselves onto Nazi expedition ships and escaping into the night. Over the years as their populations grew and establish territory, now they can be found from scorching deserts, dense woodlands and high mountain tops. However at the same time they are forced to compete with large birds and pterosaurs who are than capable of killing an adult Terapusmordax. On a more concerning note, due to their very unsanitary nature these creatures are perfect conduits of disease that able to house or spread potential plagues to other bat species in their environment. As result a round the clock taskforce was establish to prevent this species from being the starting point of a worldwide pandemic, such a scenario could be just as damaging as any Kaiju attack.
