Touma, Touma, Touma...what ever shall we do with you? ^_^ Hey, that rhymes!I regressed back into my oldies anime mode, and plunged into my old YST obsession. I was watching some of the old episodes of the series, and came across the episode where the Lady Kayura makes her appearance. That girl does NOT have the body of a 12 year old, I swear! She's 400 some odd years old but is supposed to be - physically - 12. No way.
But anyway! Ryou and Touma have met her already, once and twice respectively. Is the silhouette just not convincing? She's certainly got the curves! And the voice, guys! The VOICE! It takes her walking out on the surface of the lake in Nasuti's backyard like a certain holy figure for the light to show her face! And only THEN do the guys seem to get that, as Touma so wondrously put it, "She's a GIRL!"
No duh.
It's like, she introduced herself several times as the LADY Kayura. Were they expecting a MAN?! Jeez, men.
Well, this is what the first day of school manages to whip out. I love the little Byakuen in the corner. Hopefully I'll have time to do more stuff as time goes on. Long live the oldies!

To me, I think Touma was always surprised because Kayura apparently is only (physically) 12 years old.

There's a reason why Rowen says that. For one she keeps telling people that she's called "Lady" Kayura and since no one at that time saw what she really looked liked 'cause she was in the shadows most of the time to cover her true apparence. So because of the "Lady" part, they thought that she was an older looking woman-not counting her age since apparently most of the characters don't age to wrinkle and grey-but found her to be more looking toward the Ronin's age group 14.
So because of her not looking like what the Dynasty called her "Lady" she was really more of a "girl" looking kind of person.
Hope I made sense there and cleared that reason of Rowen's "obviousness" on "Kayura, she's a girl!" NOT A LADY!

The explanation I heard, was basically this:
Rowen says that because he was surprised that Lady Kayura was human and not a demon--- "She's a Girl!" referring to "She's a Human Girl." Just like when Shuten's/Anubis's helmet was knocked off, someone (I can't remember who) Exclaimed, "He's a man!" ---referring to him being a human and not a demon.

I guess it could be both ways on that.
And it was Rowen again with that part with Anubis.

I know, because my best friend and I had debates about that too, wondering if Rowen was just an idiot, or if it was bad dubbing.
I finally watched the Japanese version (which I own) and I am glad that Rowen is not an idiot, and it WAS bad dubbing

I own the Ronin Warriors DVDs too, and seen the Jap. version, both Rowen and Touma/Toma don't seem all that different to me. They both have their smarts.
I think the dubbing had to do certain things unpurpose because the Japanese didn't want them to use the same things-which is what I heard.

Lady Kayura: the 80s tribute to fanservice.
What's worse--that the animators didn't draw her quite as chronologically as they should...or that a twelve-year-old girl mopped the floor with the Ronin for a dozen episodes or so?
The first three panels are lovely--very romantic, the cherry-blossoms are a nice touch to add to her girlish ethereality.
And...chibi Byakuen.

But wasn't she just cool? I don't think that there were many female villains at the time, but dude, did she kick some serious ass. I would have loved to see her beat down some actual badguys besides the little youja Arago has in his employment.

Oh, Kayura was beyond bomb on bomb, I'm not arguing that. *^_^* I still sort of want to be her. I'm thinking cage match between her and Badamon. She'd smash his old face into the floor. And if we had it in a bouncy-castle? Forget it--we'd make a killing on Pay-Per-View.
