2014: UPDATED IMAGE!!! Reworked Sky / Sun effects / Color BalancesI got this professionally printed at a local print lab at an astonishing ~40 inches across. It looks stunning on my wall *.*
I had left this colossal project alone 14 months ago as lineart. Just waiting, waiting until I had a comp upgrade to handle the 7000x5000 canvas.
I've been working on this for the last 3-4 weeks, updating lineart which was still left as sketches, doing base layers and slowly building it up. and Ta-da!!!
Painting the clouds was seriously fun. It'll be one of those things I love doing - like water. Sadly though, I had to rely on filtering in PS to generate distortion for the water, doing this manually is a big ask. Everything else is hand made though :3
This is one of my all-time favourite characters - Ixtli from the wonderful anime RahXephon. What you see is actually a massive room underground (like the geofront in Eva). Strangely, the walls of the room show the image of the sky outside. In the anime, this wall gets cracked a little bit.. and you go "WTF" because until then you thought it was normal sky. God I love Rahxephon.
I'm going to shutup now before you all TL;DR on me.
BTW the perspectives are seriously flawed and the scale is off relative to the anime, but you don't care ; ) it's to hard to fix anyway.

Awesome art. I love RahXephon, and i really love Reika Mishima (didn't know or remember her name was Ixtli, thanks for the info). This work has beautiful coloring and great line art. That's why i will include it as one of my favorites.

The name Mishima was used to deceive the audience as well as Ayato.
The episode with Makoto Isshiki/ Ixtli running Terra was really insightful to how all this worked. It was apparent in this episode that Ixtli is directly influencing people with a form of mind control. And if you then go back and watch scenes earlier in the series many things begin to make perfect sense.
(e.g, episode 2- Ayato talks about a girl named Mishima Reika. His friends Torigai and Asahina have no idea who this is. But as Ixtli stares back at the two, they suddenly 'snap' and go "Oh, it's not like you to be so late!" as if they knew who this girl was all along.)
Most people who watched the series didn't catch all the little details like that, but it's those easter eggs which made me love the series so much.

Nope. 90% of the pillars' lineart was vector work of some type. Making detail is fun for me in the right mood.. but it's rare to be that focused these days. =/

So, after much ado, I finally sit down and really look at your new images to leave comments....
Out of your 3 most recent updates, I think this one has the best background. There was probably a considerable amount of time put into the clouds, pillars and water, and it shows.
The pillars have the really nice 'smooth' look to them, they don't seem pixel-ated at all (with the sides and what not).
But the clouds are defiantly my favorite. They have the detailed-dreamy look to them and I'm loving that with this picture.

I remember this one painting which used to hang in a McDonalds restuarant. It had no solid lines, it was like it was made completely out of super smooth gradients, and I adored the simplicity. Somehow this came up when I was working on it and I decided to turn off most of the lines.
I think the clouds would do great by itself. Some of the best looking bits are heavily distorted in the final pic... but I too like the dreamy feeling overall. Thankyou!

And you work on a canvas size I wish my computer could actually try and work on lol. I try and work on 8.5x11 600dpi >>; But it dosn't always work out. seriously though, your paintings is ver awe inspiring. From the rushing waters of the temple like floating sphere to the clouds. What really looks neat is also the female is anime shaded. Which gives and always can a new and neat way. I'm going to try and just paint the damn background next time I do somthing. It seems it gives such a different feeling then having the background linearted along with the lineart charater.
