As for the eyes, they are quite simple to achieve, dodge midtones, then highlight, then make sure you leave the outer circle of the iris and the pupil dark(er), to keep the effect of a real eye. You can do this in one minute

This is so amazingly well-done. I mean, seriously, you can FEEL how desperate she is for someone to help her, and the concept, though not exactly unique, is obviously well-thought-out and executed. The smudging of the letters is brilliant--it almost makes it look tear-stained. Her expression is priceless, and I absolutely LOVE the photo.
