Description EDIT2: Sold to *Leia-Luver ! Congrats.
EDIT: She's now for auction, here !

-----

Here's another thing I doodle during the time I waited weeks for the Videotron guy to come and give me my long-overdue Internet and cable. x_x
Do you recognize her?

It's little Cricket! Except.. not so little, lol.
So, what became of her, you might ask? Well, one day, we invited a Brazilian friend over – a polo trainer – to Double Dance and we managed to show him Cricket in training, when we passed by the arena. We'd always thought she'd have the potential to be a decent polo pony (her registered name would suit it, too), but wanted an expert opinion.
Well, he was smitten with her, and offered quite a hefty sum to buy her off of us. Said she'd be the perfect mount to teach young polo riders how to play, assuming her personality would fit the task, as well. We weren't concerned about the disposition issue (Cricket wouldn't hurt a butterfly and got more and more docile by the day), but since we were quite attached to her, we agreed on only part-leasing her to his stables. Once she was of age, she was shipped off for polo training at this man's farm, and he was flabbergasted by her natural knack. She knew how to gallop in a perfectly straight line, follow the ball religiously, swerve on a dime and halt or bolt at the slightest touch, all within just a few weeks.
She has since been to quite a few games, served many good riders, and has taught countless youngsters the basics, due to her sweet, calm, easygoing and obedient character.
We were a tad disappointed to see her beautiful locks shaved to a pristine roach, but it's all worth it, in the end. She absolutely loves her job.

Also, I know the tack, and... err, well, everything isn't perfect, so no comments about that please.
I tried to make her look near identical to her foal profile pic, because I thought it was kind of cute, and I wanted that “innocent girl” look to show through, even as an adult.

----------

Registered Name: DD Bat-and-Ball
Barn Name: Cricket
Gender: Mare
D.O.B.: 09/28/2002
Breed: ½ Lusitano, ½ Anglo-Arab
Bloodline: Romero x DD Naomi
Phenotype: Chestnut. Coppery brown shade, with slightly fading darker muzzle, ear tips, genital area, and around the eyes. Mane and tail are a bit darker hue than the coat, but it's roached (so, there's just a pale brown strip of shaved fur where the mane should be. It can grow back in time, though, if we'd change her discipline and stop trimming her regularly.) Her markings include a hind left sock, three stockings, a large star, and a tiny pink snip between her nostrils.
Eyes: Silvery blue
Genotype:ee / Aa
Height: 14.2hh
Build: Round, a bit small and petite, feminine, and dainty, yet with a fair amount of muscles. She's elegant and proportioned.
Breeder: *Hazel-rah of Double Dance.
Owner/trainer: *Hazel-rah of Double Dance. (sold to *Leia-Luver on 12/06/09!)
Temperament: Playful, when she gets out of her shell, but most often, she's a bit shy and cautious. We are still working on her overcoming this, and she's making wondrous progress. She's extremely easy to train, is quiet, respectful, careful, and always thinks of her rider before herself. Also loves to gallop all-out and to socialize.
Discipline(s): Polo
History: Bred and foaled at Double Dance, she was part-leased out to a Brazilian friend of ours to be trained as a polo pony, which turned out to be a great success. Unfortunately, this friend recently died of a sudden heart attack, and we need to find a new owner for her, since we now can't keep her, either. Her name partly comes from her unusual interest in crickets and grasshoppers, when she was a foal. It now suits her discipline as well, though.
Awards & Winnings: N/A
Offspring: N/A
Restrictions: Must be bred to realistic stallions only.

Ah, silly bean. Don't sweat it. Just go ahead and draw. x) This is a public auction, there's sadly going to inevitably be people who won't get her, and one person that will. It's a risk, but everyone has equal chances. Artistic "talent" doesn't mean much to me, honestly, in this case. I'm looking at the time and effort spent.

Hope you still apply! ;D

I've got a question! *raises hand*
Is her tail roached as well? I don't think that it is...but the way that you describe her mane and tail it kind of makes it sound like is.
HELP!

Hazel-rah In reply to NewAgeStables [2009-11-17 03:42:25 +0000 UTC]

If you're drawing her in a real match or something, and you have a good shot of her rear (lol), you could also show that the base of the tail is shaved a bit , but otherwise, it's pretty normal. x) Just well groomed, like any normal polo pony.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Hazel-rah In reply to NewAgeStables [2009-11-17 03:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Lol, sorry, no. I should've specified more. Her tail is normal. When she's pastured/stabled, it's just loose and average, but when she's working/poloing, it's traditional in polo-style (so, braided and then tied up .)

Hope that helped? :3

Thanks, I was totally having a break down over the tail... Being half asleep SOOO doesn't help either.

I wish, though, that I could give her to more than one owner.

This is also one of my favorites in your gallery. This is just too adorable, yet so correct in anatomy. Which I keep mentioning, I should just realize you have awesome skills, and all your art is anatomically correct. ><

I am so happy to hear that Cricket is doing well! I have known two Crickets in my time as a polo groom/player and both of them have been fabulous polo ponies. The artwork is lovely and I knew it had to be a polo pony from the preview image (roached mane and all).

As a polo groom, I'd rather see the Velcro of the wraps up right near the top, but that's just me ...

I love her expression and she does match her foal pic well.

The sad part is, after playing polo for a year, horses with no manes start to look more natural than horses without

She's adorable and makes an awesome polo pony!

And curse those Videotron guys - they're hell to wait on. I've done it over and over! Not to mention my cable craps out on a weekly basis recently D:

I might suggest that you should visit the Polo Club along Hwy 201 (Get to it by hwy 40 Eastbound, it runs right through Hudson and Ste-Lazare) if you'd like to watch some Polo players in action! It might help you if you ever decide to take a stab at giving Cricket a rider Even just doing a drive by any time of the day you can see the exercise riders working the ponies. I believe early Friday evenings are when most matches take place...at least that's when I usually see them out there on my way to my barn!

For a second, I was like "how does she know I live in QC? o.o " Anyway.
I've heard of that place. My teacher said she went a few times and it was nice. Thanks for the tip! I now live farther up north in Qc, but if I'm ever back in the Hudson/St-Lazare area at one point (which will most definitely happen, lol), I'll try to remember to drive or stop by.

Thanks for the comment!

Hazel-rah In reply to StormHillAcres [2009-08-10 18:08:35 +0000 UTC]

Well, to be honest, I nearly did. Y'know, all out.. tearing up the turf at a gallop. Except I can't draw people for the life of me, so it would've just looked silly, her playing a polo game with no rider. xD All of my pics with tacked horses usually have an explanation as to why there's no rider (the guy fell off, was bucked off, went to go get his number for the competition.) Here, I guess she doesn't need one because she's just standing there, waiting for the game to start.

Thanks for the comment! :3

Aw, I bed you'd be awesome at people! Mine were often very very scary when I started to learn about them and how they rode and stuff, but I think I've gotten a lot better at them. But I bet you if you drew a person riding, just even like the simplest picture, it'd be really good. :3
