Might be hard to find, much less survive taking photos around a black hole... but I'll try lol

hahahaha i meant take a picture that looks like you would imagine a black hole volcano looks like and title it as such.

Interesting idea.
Thinking large diameter tube of some sort, culvert maybe? Tall enough to totally hide the circle created by the iron wool.
Guy inside (or mechanical equivalent) spins the steel wool, and rotates horizontally at the same time.
Long shutter speed with an appropriate filter...
Would give a very nice "volcanic plume" of sparks.
Do it in or next to a reflective surface and voila!

Damn.. I like that idea. May have to give it a try~!

I've done a little bit of research. It seems like you need very fine grained wool to accomplish those light trails, right?

How long was the exposure for this photo?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

heART-Werks In reply to photojrs [2013-02-15 01:57:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes sir. Steel Wool 0000 is ussually best, not much of a difference between the 4 grades though, just a little finer. You can control how many sparks and how far the sparks project out by how fast or slow you spin the rope with the steel wool out. Its pretty easy and really fun, just make sure youre away from anything rediculously flamable. Theres a ton of tutorials out there on YouTube.
My exposure was 30 seconds, but you can realistically get away with just 15 seconds if needed. Any other questions lmk, glad to help and please put up pics when youve done them I have a ton more of the steel wool shots in cue so stay tuned! Take it easy!
