Tasuveern

The Tasuveern (also known simply as "Tasu") are the reptilian race of the Western lands, they are covered head to toe in a scaly hide with typically two curved horns atop their head and a pair of large "leathery" wings on their backs and long pointed tails. The Tasuveern very in many shapes sizes and colors however every Tasuveern is green when they are born until they reach adulthood, their eye color ranges from red, orange, and yellow at this point under adulthood. An average Tasuveern can stand anywhere from six and a half to seven feet tall. The Tasuveern are incredibly muscular by nature and with little to no body fat, however male Tasuveern tend to be much more muscular with broader shoulders while the females tend to be larger and taller with wider hips and greater sized horns. At this age the Tasuveern are hairless however later in life they do grow hair eventually. The Tasuveern scale covered hide is considered to be some of the strongest and most resilient natural armor in all of Territh.
Although the Tasuveern are reptilian in appearance they are not cold-blooded, in fact they can quite easily adapt to any environment both warm and cold.

The Tasuveern diet is that of an omnivore, they hunt and trap many of the large insects, giant birds, and the strange and exotic marine life  native to their homeland of  Dai xing as well as many of the wild fruits growing in abundance throughout their lands. They also cultivate a wide variety of vegetables and grains such as beans, leaks, cabbages, many kinds of roots, peppers, a wide variety of spices and herbs, and most notably a rather particular breed of sticky rice.
Sticky Rice is an ever omnipresent ingredient with every Tasuveern dish as it is used as both condiment and eating utensil as well as being one of their chief exports to many eastern lands especially to the province of Aspana.

Although they are considered by most others to be harsh and blunt and borderline rude the Tasuveern favor what they consider to be "truthful speaking" in that they hide no inner feelings or emotions they are a very open people even to their own detriment, to them being that open and honest seen as favorable and honorable. It is also worth noting that the Tasuveern do not lie and rarely keep secrets. That being said however they wouldn't tell their battle plans to their enemies, they tell the truth and hide nothing as individuals but they will not do or say anything that would harm their families, people or their military. To put it in the words of the Tasuveern "a single branch does not make an entire tree"
They also view breaking one's promises as a serious dis-honor to themselves and their family depending on severity it can even be punishable by death. To the Tasuveern they believe that one should treat their word as their promise in fact in the Tasuveern language there is no such word as "promise" the closest thing that you get to is the word "Han-kudo" which literally translates as "To Speak "

Although the Tasuveern are the figureheads of their Empire and control the entire continent of Loh- Sakuma they do not enforce their ways or standards on any of the other cultures of Loh- Sakuma as they merely act as peacekeepers of their lands and when need be settling disputes between peoples only using their local laws and not their own. When asked about this they merely responded with a proverb by saying "The Lotus is beautiful when it blooms in the spring, but it does not tell the orchids how to grow."
The Tasuveern have also been known to disassociate themselves with other cultures that Do force themselves on other cultures and people, mainly the continent of Averia and its empire have been disallowed from entering their Empire nor will they even trade with them. Even our Eastern cultures here on Titus have received much disapproval from the Tasuveern Empire for associating with Averia and her people.

Many eastern cultures attribute the Tasuveern as being "Dragons" and call them as such, however the Tasuveern consider this to be insulting saying "I find as much honor being called a Dragon as you Humans, Tau and Hujann would find honor in being called Apes, Fish and Cats." However despite this some of the less educated still refer to them as dragons.

Socially the Tasuveern are in general quite peaceful to one another in fact in all of their recorded history there have been no civil wars or any large-scale battles between each other that being said however the Tasuveern still have disputes with one another most are resolved verbally and peacefully however some of these disputes can get rather escalated to the point of violence in where the parties involved settle the disagreement with a dual, most duals are more or less harmless and involve hand-to-hand combat while others are resolved with steel blades but even then they usually inflict nonfatal wounds to each other in a display of honorable combat and reverence for their opponent, but there have been some rare instances where one has killed the other.

Although they won't admit it the Tasuveern have been known to be quite hostile and distrusting to anyone who isn't a Tasuveern even amongst the races native to Loh- Sakuma, and once their suspicions are confirmed about another race they rarely let go of there feelings towards them, most notably are their ongoing grudge with not only Averia and her people but also with humans. Long ago human beings made contact with the Tasuveern Empire however one misunderstanding led to another and soon we were at war despite our best attempts to apologize. The war did not last long as the Tasuveern Empire did not realize that our strength in numbers with our allies was greater than theirs. Soon an uneasy peace treaty was signed, however still to this day the Tasuveern refuses to have any dealings with human beings but instead they only interact and communicate with our allies.

The province of Dai Xing is a very mountainous and Rocky province, great spires of rock in conjunction with the many rivers and waterfalls of Dai Xing create twisting and turning chasms and gorges filled with spectacular cascading waterfalls, water pools, and grottoes. Even though Dai Xing is quite Rocky it is also a very green and fertile land filled with many bizarre and colorfully vibrant plants, most notably the Tasuveern favor pink Lotus trees that grow in abundance within their cities.

A typical Tasuveern city is a large singular structure that serves both as city fortress and temple, these "fortress cities" called " Shiru Yami" by the native Tasuveern. Even though they have large-scale cities there is no such thing as a Tasuveern village of any kind, when asked about this the Tasuveern replied with "It Would Corrupt the Natural Order of Life to Have Such Things."
They are typically built atop mountains or large hills sometimes even carved out of the rock itself, these structures are built in a triangular like shape with multiple tiers built on top of each other with the center most point of the shiru-yami being a straight shaft through it all the way to open sky so one can clearly see through each tier from the bottom all the way up.  Each tier is then broken up into districts the bottommost and largest tier is usually the city's Gardens and temple districts while The area surrounding the outside of the shiru-yami is usually crop fields or rice paddies, while above that is the markets and food districts, then above that is the business districts, then homes and inns, then finally the nobility and Xioaveern district.

It is also worth noting that each Shiru Yami is considered to be its own "House" and every citizen within the Shiru Yami belongs to that particular house and each is complete with its own house seal. Within every house however live many family groups, the Tasuveern refer to these groups as "Clans"and each clan has its own clan seal. Both houses and clans are very important to the Tasuveern as their names are derived from both, if a Tasuveern was to formally address you they would give you the name of their house then the name of their clan and then their own name.
Most clans follow a very particular skill set that pass down from generation to generation, some of the smaller clans are mainly comprised of farmers and smalltime merchants as for the larger clans can be made up of anything from international traders, warriors, artists and scholars. And above those clans are the "nobility" they are the clans that are recognized by the Tasuveern as being the most honorable and the very best. Some of the more noteworthy clans like the Takushina clan is solely dedicated to raising and training some of the best warriors Territh has ever seen. And then there is clan Matsuhida renowned for their mastery of Jinsho. And then the Fukushi clan who are known for their craftsmanship and metallurgy far across Loh- Sakuma. However all houses no matter how great or small pay homage to the great house Anazii, although no one truly belongs to house Anazii as it is the house of their goddess, the Tasuveern erect shrines to her all across Loh- Sakuma. These shrines also known as way shrines act as a sort of wayside inns for travelers along the roads between the Shiru Yami.

Throughout their lives the Tasuveern undergo intense training for the arts of combat and strategies, swordplay, reading and writing, advanced mathematics as well as the intensive training of eitheren powers, however the Tasuveern refer to the either as a different name calling it "Jinsho" which literally translates as simply "Blood"
the Tasuveern are so in tune and adaptive with eitheren powers that they have perfected them to such a degree that it alters their physical being. When a Tasuveern is born they are gifted with an affinity for one of the schools of Jinsho and once they reach adulthood those gifts are made manifest not only with their abilities and powers but with their physical being by mirroring their Jinsho, if a Tasuveern follows the Jinsho path of Sho-sai or in rough translation "Flames of the heart" or "Heart fire" their appearance will be irreversibly changed, their scales will turn red, they will grow additional horns, hair on their head and even down the back as well as bony structures along the tail, they wield the powers of fire and even be able to command it at will from any source.
There are many schools of Jinsho and each one changes the Tasuveern in a very particular manner, some even "Rob them" of their ability to fly by taking their wings in favor of other features. The Jinsho school of Bao-kyu translated as "Soul of the Earth" or "Earthen Spirit"  takes away their ability to fly in favor of their hide becoming so strong they have no need of metal armor. Or the school of Mai-zue which roughly means "Rivers of the will" or "Flowing Mind"  gives the individual fins instead of wings and the ability to breathe underwater. However this is only a small portion of many schools of Jinsho, some are more common than the rest such as Sho-sai, Bao-kyu, and Mai-zue however there are some so rare that they are almost considered to be nonexistent some of the most rare are the Loh-Sheng-Tsu and the Loh-Ashuni-Yin, those names roughly translates to "From Where Life Springs" or "Giver of Souls " as for the second name means "From Where Life Diminishes" or "Drinker of Spirits" it is not entirely clear what these two are capable of as none have been encountered by our travels but are fiercely believed to exist by the local Tasuveern.

The lifespan of Tasuveern is an interesting multistage process that spans over 1000 years making the Tasuveern some of the oldest living beings in all of Territh. A Tasuveern's life begins by hatching out of an egg and growing into childhood, a Tatsu child isn't considered an adult until he or she reaches the age of 15 years old to where the Jinsho transformation takes place, from there on they will live their lives for another 400 years however for the next hundred years at this point their bodies will undergo yet another transformation although this one will be a much slower process taking place over the entire hundred years. Their bodies twist and become larger and more muscular than ever before, their size increases 4 to 5 times more massive than their original form, their neck's lengthen their wings increase in size and their arms and hands change and become more like their hind legs, once this process is complete they become what is known as by the Tasuveern as a Xioaveern, a more animalistic looking version of the Tasuveern they walk on all fours and cast Jinsho powers from their mouths with 10 times the ferocity as it ever was before. The Xioaveern still retain their intelligence and their ability to speak but they do lose some dexterity with their hands due to the new shape but are still able to use them effectively enough.
The Xioaveern are revered by the Tasuveern to the point of electing them as their rulers, many Tasuveern find it a great honor and privilege to serve under a Xioaveern and their household.

Towards the end of their life a Xioaveern will be contacted by their goddess Anazii by some unknown means, the Xioaveern have only described this message as "Being Called to Her" with a little to no additional information. Shortly after contact a Xioaveern will then fly off into the high mountains of Dai Xing never to be seen or heard from again. It isn't entirely clear as to where they go but the local Tasuveern and Xioaveern believe that they are "Being Summoned to Her High Sanctuary " it is yet unknown if this "High Sanctuary" is the Xioaveern's idea of heaven and/or afterlife or if they honestly believe that it is an actual place that has yet to be discovered.
On this topic it's also worth noting that if a Tasuveern or Xioaveern happens to die before they are "Called to Her" it is believed by both Tasu and Xioaveern that their goddess Anazii "She Sends Her Beloved to Collect the Souls of Those Who Have Fallen, for Our High Mother Does Not Suffer Her Children to Perish."
It isn't entirely clear as to whom her "Beloved" is as there is no description, legend, or even artistic representation of what this entity might be but it is still firmly believed in by both Tatsu and Xioaveern.

Although technically the Tasuveern have many rulers that govern every Shiru Yami the Tasuveern and Xioaveern only consider themselves to have one true ruler, their goddess Anazii Xiaotasu. Not only is their entire race named after her They also attribute Anazii as being their mother and revering her as such. Their worship of Anazii is simple enough as Anazii requires no offerings or sacrifices but instead the Tasuveern worship her twice per day  (once in the morning and once in the evening) by offering prayer either silently or chanting aloud. It's also worth noting that there are no depictions as to what Anazii looks like,  the only two things that exist of her is the symbol of the red claw and her house seal both of which can be easily seen as the centerpiece of the Tasuveern banner.

Although there are very few acts the Tasuveern perform in the way of worship of Anazii they more than make up for it in their way of monthly celebrations in her name, each month specific celebrations are carried out pertaining to that particular month, the celebrations can be based around anything from the crop planting season, beginning of summer, the harvest season, the beginning of winter, the coming of the new year or simply to commemorate certain events and so on and so forth. These celebrations mainly consists of brightly colored banners, overabundance of food, dancing and street performances, loud music, and fireworks. Most of these events take place at night or early evening however some can even be an all day event such as the Yurii Chushi Festival which roughly translates to (The New World's Light) or (The New Dawn) which is the Tasuveern's New Year's celebration, this holiday is held on the very last day of winter and the first day of spring when the Sol is at its brightest and the pink Lotus trees begin to blossom. It is also at this time that most Tasuveern arrange their wedding ceremonies as it is symbolic of new beginnings and growth.

Typically in the Tasuveern customs marriage is accomplished either one of two ways. The first being marital arrangements made at birth between clans to ensure legitimacy and heirhood, this method is usually practiced by the nobility and not the common people.
The other is pure luck and chance, most Tasuveern find one another in a myriad of ways if it be a common interest, common goals, and even simply sharing the same Jinsho among many others.
A typical Tasuveern marriage ceremony has both families together all dressed in white, while the bride to be is dressed head to toe in white with silk and white paint and around her head and neck they are adorned with pink Lotus flowers, the male Tasuveern is dressed in black white and blue silken clothes and with him he carries a bowl of water, they approach each other in front of both families the groom then silently offers the bowl to her lips and if she accepts she will then drink from his bowl to where he will in turn drink from it also, at that moment they are then married.
It's also worth noting that marriage in the Tasuveern culture is permanent there is no such thing as divorce or Re-marrying. the closest thing the Tasuveern have to divorce is what they referred to as "Yinphi'Shii" which vaguely means "To Be Empty without " or "Lifeless Soul"
which literally refers to one being without the other, or more accurately as in one having died leaving the other widowed.
In one extremely rare case a couple within a noble family sought to be unmarried to the other to where the two had a duel to the death in which they killed one another.

Soon after conception a female Tasuveern will only lay a single egg that both male and female will take care of within their own home. depending on what temperature the egg is kept will determine the unborn's gender, if it is kept cool it will be male however if it's kept warm it will be female. The eggs will then incubate for a season "one year's time" until it is ready to Hatch, from their Tasuveern infants are able to walk and eat solid foods on their own however they are still reliant on their parents for support. Tasu young grow quickly and reach adolescence at the age of 10 years old and from there they enter their Jinsho transformation at the age of 15, afterwards they are considered to be an adult.

However in addition to this it is also worth noting that Xioaveern are also able to conceive children although it is a much more rare occurrence. Much like the Tasuveern soon after conception between two Xioaveern the female will then lay a clutch of eggs up to five or six at a time, from their the female will then fiercely guard her brood while the male only provides her with sustenance and safety. For reasons unknown the temperature the eggs are kept at no longer has any bearing to the gender but instead the genders are seemingly random, The gestation period of the eggs take slightly longer at a year and a half. Once the young emerge from their eggs they are "Born" as seemingly normal Tasuveern with no discernible differences from other Tasuveern.

Now I want a picture of one a Xioaveern leading a flight of Tasuveern out from the top of Anazii Xiaotasu's Shiru Yami. That's a mouthful to say. Haha.

This is a race I could see so much potential for stories for. Hell, I already thought of some ideas when reading their ideals about truth and then one of them having to deal with some human who almost never tells the truth but is still on their side. I also really love the design, especially the look of the head.

Thanks man.

Honestly, as of thus far they have been the hardest to make for more than a few reasons.
I'm pretty happy with they way they've come out, but i'm not sure if i'm done with them yet.

That would be a pretty interesting story, i'd like to see something like that.
