Description

Day 7 of our Kickstarter:  The Legend of Tarot , a Tarot deck that uses the visual language of video games!

Today we meet The Empress.

The Empress can represent a number of things, including abundance, fertility, and motherhood.   One of my favorite aspects of The Empress is her association with femininity.   She is in tune with her intution and feelings, and sees the strength and wisdom in looking after human physical need.   She is an authority, but one that serves with compassion.

Saria inspired us for this card, specifically because of her relationship to Link.   Even though he never had a mother, Saria acts as his surrogate.   She cares for him, but is able to let him go when Adventure calls.   Still, she can't help but hold him in her heart.  She is always there for him, should he need a home to return to.

Ooo not who I'd've expected as the empress. Nice art ^^

Really?   Who would you have expected?

Personally, to me the Empress has always been a mother figure card... and in Zelda OoT I can't think of a more appropriate choice.
But I'd enjoy hearing your input!

I suppose I would have envisioned Ruto or Zelda as The Empress, or perhaps Nayru.^^() Maybe I'm just not getting enough sleep lately and my brain is mush hahaha.

Those would all work great for the Empress!   This was just our choice, but your selections are just as valid. ^^

Ah okay ^^ Hehe thanks, hopefully Din, Nayru and Farore get something good for them each. Or if they're all together... I forget if there's a "Sisters" card o.o

Hehe...

Hey, Heart. Is the Tower card like, a horrible card to get?

HeartGear In reply to Fal-Den [2014-04-29 13:03:33 +0000 UTC]

Hey Fal-Den,

The Tower card COULD be a horrible card to get.   But that's true of any card, depending on the context and POV.

Janina says in Tarot for a New Generation
"The tower can represent a massive force that disrupts a way of life or overthrows existing beliefs and ways of doing things".

This could mean an accident, illness, or losing ones job.   It could mean a breakup or being disowned from one's family.
But it could also mean creative breakthroughs, insight, and liberation.

While the bad could be really bad, the good could be really good.

It's a powerful card.   And that makes it frightening to some.

Why do you ask?

Fal-Den In reply to HeartGear [2014-04-29 13:12:22 +0000 UTC]

So a representation of change...

Well someone had told me drawing that card is really, really, bad. Saying it's worse that getting the DEATH card, that kinda freaked me out.

And I believe we once drew that card years ago.

HeartGear In reply to Fal-Den [2014-04-29 13:54:35 +0000 UTC]

Well... not totally wrong.   I consider the Death card to be fairly positive most of the time, while the Tower card is definitely more neutral to negative...  I mean, change is often painful.   But I think they were being a little blunt (and possibly ignorant) with their interpretation.

HeartGear In reply to Fal-Den [2014-04-29 13:43:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh gosh!    Whoever told you that is totally wrong.

The Death Card is my FAVORITE card, and I pick it for my signifier all the time.   It rarely stands for literal death.   More often it stands for transformation, endings and beginnings, and natural life cycles and renewals.

Negative associations of the death card are more often associated with being in a state of Stasis or stagnation... or of rememberances of parts of your life that are now passed  (who you were in highschool is now, essentially passed).   Even so, these aren't necessarily negative.

The Devil card could be considered bad because it's often associated with addiction and self-defeating behaviors.  The 8 of swords can be considered pretty negative, as can the 9.

But it is very unlikely that you'll get a reading that is portending your doom.   Tarot just... in my experience, it doesn't work like that.

And that death card sounds cool! It's like an end to a journey but soon after, you go on another journey. : D It reminds me of fantasies of old, and the one's never told.

Fal-Den In reply to HeartGear [2014-04-29 14:16:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh! The death card isn't bad at all?

Well now I feel like a total dope for believing the death and tower card is bad.

Now I wanna slap the person who lied and freaked me out!!!

Hehe, by the way, Heart, thanks for clearing that up for me. And the extensive knowledge on Tarot.

Don't feel like a dope!   I'm so happy to discuss this kind of stuff with anyone I sometimes come across a bit strong. I apologize if I came across as overzealous

No need to apologize! It's so nice to see you're so passionate about the mysticism of Tarot!

Another question I wanna ask: is there a card called "Geb"?

Not that I'm familiar with, but I'll ask Al in the morning.   Maybe it's in reference to something?
