This is the first time I have ever used this feature on dA so I would say that I am a total rookie at writing critiques. The reason I chose to do this is that I think very highly of this artists work, and the subject matter is similar to the type I paint, and therefore I figured I would have some knowledge in this area.

The painting is well painted in a beautiful soft flowing style, even the rocks look soft to the touch. I think the sky is powerful and full of life, although it appears a bit too bright on my computer screen. The reflections of the light in the water are handled very well and other than a bit of area on the right near the horizon, they seem to match well up with the sky.

The land in the background and the waves are perfectly executed, and fit well with the scene. My eye is a bit bothered by the rocky land in the foreground. I almost want to tilt the rocks on the lower left up just a bit (perhaps with brighter lighting on the leading edges of the ones near the bottom). In a way it seems that the water is actually higher then the rocks and that just throws off the perspective of this picture slightly to me.

Overall though I would say that the colouring, the flow, and the feel of the painting are lively and well executed.

I hope this is a fair critique of this painting, I tried to look at it as though it was something I did, and areas that would stand out to me (good and bad) if I had done it.

Stunning seascape. The use of expressive brushstrokes is, as always, completely beautiful. Your work always leaves me in awe. The feel of the tide moving over the rocks is almost ominous, but the bright and sun-lit thinner clouds sooth the whole scene. Brilliant piece.

Love your handling of this piece. All of it, the tones, the composition, the painterly feel.

This has some of the divinity of Lawren Harris's works. The synthesis of natural functions may well be automatic/natural, but there's a musical geometry or something through out. It has all the integrity of a Harris painting. So many 'landscapes' are lazy or presumptuous, ripping off properties of nature, but not honouring them. This picture is an actual experience. Normally I find landscapes to be boring, but not this one.

Wow, your words are so kind. Thanks so very much. I am usually a figurative painter. Perhaps the inclination towards the figure lends a different perspective to the landscapes? I'm not sure. I am sure that I like it though, and very glad you do as well! Cheers

I'm always really happy when you submit new stuff here.
The work on contrast on such a limited palette is superb!

Absolutely love the way you've painted the rocks - they remind me of stained glass.

I remember crossing a causeway out to a fish plant at Rocky Harbour. Is this close?
I don't know about middle earth but it certainly is another world there! Love this one...
