A real place near where i live, well it wasThis was originally an 18th century manor house built on top of an old iron age hill-fort.
It was greatly extended in the 19th century before becoming a 'colony for the mental defective' with about 200 beds sometime in the 1930's
It remained so until the mid 1990's when mental healthcare was improved and re-structured.
It was replaced by a new, white modern looking building nearby named Loperwood, also on the grounds of an old country manor
This old hospital was finally demolished about 2005 when it fell derelict beyond repair.
it's honestly a creepy isolated place when approaching it from the fields, even in broad daylight and the hospital gone.

Wow - amazing picture. I lived in this building when it was nurses accommodation and tatchbury mount was a hospital for people with learning disabilities. We had fun but thankfully most people with a learning disability now live in accommodation that's closer to what we'd expect for ourselves. It was a great place to be a student nurse though.

Must have been pretty cool to have actually had the opportunity to go inside that building, for some reason info and photographs of the place are really scarce..I can find only two :l
I went up there recently and the place is demolished completely.
But yes, the people who would have once been institutionalized in that place are now in my college, in the same classes too and that seems to be working well.

Hi there I'm currently working on a project for a Bournemouth Charity about mental healthcare which does have a section on Tatchbury Hospital. I would be grateful if they could reproduce your artwork on their exhibition panel and am sure would be happy to add a credit to you by the image.?

there may be an online part, but I'm not anything to do with that at the moment. I'm creating an educational information display that will be used locally in colleges, university's and library's detailing human rights events and the treatment of handicapped people from 1377!

This is for part of their struggle for equality project.
Hopefully The online part will be able to contain more information and links.
My plan is to also give the display hard links as well.
wish I could promise you fame and fortune but at least I can get some of your work out there and hopefully every little helps.
