Vitriolic best buds are basically two friends who do care for each other despite fighting, insulting or bantering. Though, in this case, I imagine Viet-kun to be the one who does more of this (the insulting at least), but Alfred, most of the time, doesn't really realize some of his stealth insults or sharper and blunter tones and just continues to refer to him as a buddy. When that happens, Viet-kun either softens up, or just gets highly incredulous at how the blonde doesn't understand his tone.

Not an AmeViet pic, btw - the furthest I can think of with that pairing is Alfred or Emily having a crush on either one of the Vietnamese representatives, but Viet-kun and Ms Vietnam don't return it because they both find our American heroes too immature for their liking (especially Viet-kun). Plus, I do like the head-canon from a friend of mine where Alfred frequently calls Ms Vietnam "granny", and she doesn't know whether to feel offended or respected due to his tone, since old age tends to equal wisdom and are given respect in Eastern culture, and seniors are always given priority. If someone doesn't give a senior priority, then society immediately assumes something is wrong with the person who didn't give the senior priority, and that they're horrible.

Anyway, in return, Viet-kun gets called "gramps" or "old man" quite a lot ("grumpy old man" in particular, is quite a popular name Nyo!America calls him). However, I tend to think that whereas Ms Vietnam is more understanding of both America's (again, because I do like my friend's head-canon at her understanding that they're technically very young), Quan is far less tolerable and gets more easily irritated, despite having a usually cool composure and rational judgement most of the time. He also doesn't appreciate the whole old = frail or weak mindset that tends to be used in Western societies, and is quite proud of his older age due to the experiences he's gone through (though some of them are quite scarring).

Alfred: Hey, dude! How you been?
Quan: Go home.
Alfred: Whoaaa, you working out? You're feeling quite buff, man!
Quan: Gtfo.
