I dedicate this to the mega-multi-talented , who many months ago, gave me the idea of drawing live show portraits.

This was inspired by the Kyuutai DVD of the New York show - I studied Satochi playing the drums. He has a 'matched grip' doesn't he(?)
Satochi has an absolutely mesmerizing tempo during the performance of Ageha, and the first reason why I love MUCC's music.

I'm not very good at explaining my art technique, so the W.I.P. shows how I did this drawing. There's still some odd parts too.

this is amazing! i was visiting another deviants site when he mention in his artist's comment that he did his work with his friend in mind. so i clicked ur icon out of curiosity. it's beautiful, how u merge so many different types of shading to create this simply natural looking piece that defies logic by telling me that...it's not a photo wow.

please do tell me how u did the amazing light reflection on the drum and hazy light reflections on cymbals, as well as the textured wall feel in the background! i would love to know how u did the skin too, so smooth, so naturally wrinkled in place. and yet, it appears like skin doesn't have lineart!wow.thank you.

Wow, your comment is extremely kind! If you can, please look at the progression of this drawing [link] to see how I began getting a base of the drawing, various shapes which would be shaded in later. It's quite difficult to explain, but how you blend the shading helps create the various effects - particularly the lighting effects. I did draw lineart, but I then erase it whenever it is no longer needed.
I had to guess on some things, and try to remember how the person/object looks like in reality. The hair was so enjoyable to draw.. the skin was very challenging. Using 2B for the background was a good idea in the end.
