well you get technical expertise by taking more and more photos
plus i guess imagination is the key: if you dont have anything to photograph then create something thats worth being photographed ^^

Yeah, I guess you're probably right and you remind me a lot of another dA friend, Michelle. She's an EMT in a big city and does wonderful things with discarded Barbie dolls. She's also an avid photographer and has been expanding her surreal photos quite a bit. Take a look at her here.
