Description A while back, a good friend of mine asked if I could make something for her; a shoulder piece for her Gladiatrix costume. She ran on a budget; bonus points were there to be had if I kept costs low.

Challenge accepted, I said.

This is the result and it's pretty good looking, if I may be so bold It was a while since I last bodged something together and the first time I made a shoulder piece, so beforehand, I crossed my fingers if it'd be as good as I wanted it to be. I figure I met and conquered the challenge

Though it feels like an undue spoiler, in the interest of hopefully inspiring other builders, I'll list the main 'ingredients' below:
  • An plastic gutter (unused!) for the 'slats', covered in fake leather.
  • Various leather belts.
  • Various metal hardware, of which most important, two steel rings from an old horse halter.
  • Plenty of rivets.
  • Plenty of glue.
  • Some leather cord.
How all of that went together, is hopefully self-evident.

In my eyes, what makes it work, is me looking at existing samples of how to create enough freedom of movement. I didn't tie the slats together tight; there's 2 to 3 centimetres of leeway there. And without those iron rings, the whole belt get-up wouldn't work or look as neat.

All in all, even though I'm a perfectionist and see errors in what I made, I'm happy with it it. Even more so because the 'client' likes what I made. I guess the next time I'll make one for myself

Thank ye! 'Twas fun to make and I think I set a new record by finishing it two (long) evenings, not counting an evening measuring my friend
