Well, in Linkara's History of Power Rangers, the explosions when they morph is like when they spark after getting hit, an excess energy is being released. Now that of course explains the old school explosions. Some of the newer shows (at least one, I think Overdive) have odd explosions that literally came from no where! Not even even when they take a huge hit from a big blast. Random things are just exploding!

+1 for visual effects. Probably the editors have too much green-screen explosion footage, haha.

I'm thinking they ordered too much and just used it where ever they could cause you know "we gotta clear the inventory."

Operation Overdrive was really bad about it, even water or ice attacks caused massive fireballs. I seem to recall one case of bladed weapons being dramatically pointed at each other causing an explosion.
I really wonder how the suit actors survive all the punishment.
