You kinda got that Mary Blair-esque style going on, from what I can see. Good on ya :3

There's something about the style here that's vaguely reminiscent of Charley Harper , though not nearly as stylised.

Very interesting! I hadn't heard of that artist before. His work is great, though I personally prefer my stuff a little more organic.

The style and technique/media remind me of a Golden Books illustration. Very sweet! The wing tag is a nice (and accurate) touch.

When did you get so good at watercolors? 8D It looks great! Seriously, even people at my school would love it, and they are as picky as it gets! Keep it up!

Awww thanks! I'm still no good with watercolors though XD Only the rock is painted, the rest is copics/inks.

Still! It looks great, and that's what matters.

OMG OMG what's this upgrade with your art? More stylized AND lineless still retaining your usual touch?? MOAR please D:
(Seriously. Also I'm much into vultures and the likes lately so I appreciate this even more *_* can't stop looking)

THANKS Usually I don't experiment that much with commissions since I want to make sure people get what they expect, but for this one I just felt like it I LOVE lineless style but it's so hard to make! (and I LOVE brush inks too so I often choose the easy (for me) way!) Materials is also a problem, since I only really like the look of lineless art (or usually any art) if it's traditional. This bird was mostly black and I still had copics in two shades of pink, so I went with it for this one

Eheh, I understand perfectly what you mean both by not experimenting on commissions and choosing to ink all the times XD You took the best decision this time with this one though!
Traditional lineless things are awesome really! I recently tried acrilyc for that (the square grey dinosaur I put up on LJ a while ago) but messed up some things :/ I never think of markers, I should dust them off more often. And since a good while I have a piece of wood ready to paint a lineless grebe on, but I just can't decide how to exactly do it! (you've seen my sketching, trying to figure out a definite design XD)
Aaaanyway, back to you! (I love you for always showing the WIPs!) Did you keep a line drawing under it and filled in the color areas then?

For as far as I know most artists who work in this lineless style use gouache, so maybe it's easier to work with that? I don't own any of those paints at the moment, I just use whatever I have. (usually mix acrylics, inks and watercolors)
Yes, in this case I had a cleaned up pencil sketch on a seperate sheet and put it on the lightbox. Mostly I just lightly traced the outlines for each color field first (slightly bigger because you can't erase the pencil anymore after coloring over it), drew the outline with a marker and then colored it... since you can't really see colors with the lightbox on.

Question; did you use the copics for that smooth flat look or what? I've always wondered if getting smooth looks like in digital media could be achieved tradtionally.

Yes, though plenty of people can magically achieve a flat look with paint, watercolors even. I can't... yet, but that might also be the paper I use. It's all copics here, exept for the rock, which is watercolors, and the black, which is ink.

Ah, I see. I prefer traditional mediums a ton but really the main reason I even do digital is because of the smooth looks it gives me, even if it looks seriously synthetic and fake sometimes. I'd seriously love to get those effects traditionally though, without the fakeness of course.

Loving the flat, stylized look on this one! Very different from your usual stuff.

Also, condors are just totally badass. The research tag on the wing is a clever touch, too.
