My mother told me that when she was young she went by boat from Venice to Greece. That sounds like a lovely way to travel too.

Yes it is!We have 2 boats..one from Greece till Italy and of course u visit some islands,before getting to Italy!And one more from Greece to Turkey!Again seeing islands first!

And yeah heavy binge drinking is big in these countries. I've never seen so much drunk ppl as in Russia. They sat on the subway early in the morning drinking beer on their way to work

Actually when u drink to much and u need to get sober u drink a beer!It works like coffee!In Greece alcohol is cheap and u can get a beer with 1euro from anywhere in the street,so from tourists during summer time,ppl that drink A LOT are from Russia,England(omg they destroy everything hahaha),Sweden and Germany.I noticed that Swedish women in Greece drink muh more than men and getting crazy here!haha!But yes,drinking at morning is just waaaaay to much!

Yeah some people - no matter how old the get - seem to be unable to calculate how much they can drink.
And I always think ppl in the Vodka Belt (around polar circle countries like Swede, Norway, Finland (oh THEY are really good at booze), Poland Russia, Canada et cetera have a bit of a habit of getting really drunk to celebrate whatever, instead of like having a nice glass of wine together with a good dinner, like down south.

It sounds like it would be very interesting. I am a big European History buff. I really do want to come to Europe for a year and really take in all the history and grandeur it has to offer. I couldn't see myself growing old having never done that.

Yeah there's a lot to see here, and make sure to take your time. A lot of people rush trough it adn return home exhausted instead of enlightened. And make a "must" list which don't have to be like everybody else's- the more unique the better to be true. Then make sure to tick off these first or do them more troughout before you aim for lesser interesting spot. And take a camera with a huge memory card + backup alternative lotsa film if you do it the "analogue" way!

I have dreamt with going to Italy since I was 9!...when I first read the Divine Commedy...Florence and Venice..Rome as well,the Cities I want to see,my favorites!...then years later while I discovered one of my favorite Vampires: Marius De Romanus and read "Blood and Gold",I fell much more in love with Venice...I love it so much that my own vampire story Joie de Vivre starts in Italy!
I really hope I can go there one day,I have traveled a lot in USA and in my own country,also Canada,but I still can not been able to go to my very loved and admired Italy.
