Description Done in a variety of ring sizes with 16 and 18 gauge bright aluminum, using mostly variants of European 6-in-1 and Celtic Visions.

Some day there will be a full chess set, one side in aluminum and the other in brass, of course with a matching board. However, that day is likely a long way off.

These are great - the sculpting is clever and the shaping is very well done.

With good reason, too.

I assume you speak of David Austin's set? I was specifically inspired by that, actually, and my work has gotten some nice compliments from him. I don't want to take too much credit for working on a "better" set, though, because I see myself as kind of building on his work. My set wouldn't be as good as it is if I didn't have something like his to reference from and decide what improvements to make.

Were the pieces all basically little blocks of Japanese Cube which were barely recognizably as actual chess pieces? That's the one other completed set I know of, which is honestly so unimpressive that I barely even count it.

You can find David Austin's set here: [link]

No no no. I'm not claiming credit for that set at all. I just said that was another set I KNOW OF.

Amazing work!

I will always be proud of the maille work that I do, but when I see works like this... My jaw just drops. The creativity and skill required for something like this is still well beyond me at the momment.

Thank you. Getting compliments like that from other maillers means a lot, cause you actually know what goes into it.

Hehehe.. Blood, sweat, and tears... And hours of hours of mind bending thinking.

Though I'm sure the blood part is just because I'm clumbsy.

Honestly, I love the work, and the idea of the chess set. That's awsome. I'm definately going to keep an eye on your works.

I'm actually not the first to do a chainmail chess set. That honor goes to David Austin of [link]

However, I'm trying to go a step beyond his set. After all, it wouldn't be worth much to just reproduce what he's already done.

And as to the blood part, it's not just you. I've drawn blood a number of times from the slip-and-jab, but only when working with stainless steel. There is a reason I do all sculpture pieces, like this one, in things like aluminum and brass.

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately, it'll be a long time before I have a full set to play with.
