Description Done in a variety of ring sizes with 16 and 18 gauge bright aluminum, using mostly variants of European 6-in-1 and Celtic Visions.

Some day there will be a full chess set, one side in aluminum and the other in brass, of course with a matching board. However, that day is likely a long way off.

i tried to make a knight out of chainmail today... i don't know how you did this but this is incredible and it's a lot harder than it looks to replicate (i can attest to that)

SO COOL!!! you should really post something showing how to make them because i'm getting really sick of just making sheets.

A tutorial for this would be really long, complicated affair. If you want to advance beyond sheets, though, there's nothing stopping you. Look up more weaves on Maille Artisans, experiment with different aspect ratios, figure out the things that go rigid (there are a LOT of ways to make rigid chainmail), and start applying some creative design.

that is so amazing i wish i knew how to make them do u think u could tell me or at least help because i have been trying to figure out a design for some time but have not been able too.

It's fairly complicated. It uses a large number of different weaves, and some bits that don't really qualify as any specific weave, but were merely improvised on the spot.

All I can really recommend is to constantly practice and experiment with as many weaves as possible, making whatever seems interesting, and eventually you'll be able to make things like this.

Wow they are intense! They must of taken a lot of time and effort! The level of detail you put into that little knight is amazing!

Thanks! The king was actually the hardest, but the knight is my favorite, because I was able to put in so many unique details.

I've actually since made them all better, by introducing some brass into the design for a subtle two-color effect. The knight's reins and part of his base is now yellow.

God I want to be able to do this one day. Get rich, make half out of silver, the other half out of gold. That would possibly be the climax of my chainmailling career.

You know, my original plan had been to make "test" pieces in aluminum and brass, and then make the final ones in half scale, silver and gold.

Unfortunately, the designs are all too aspect-ratio sensitive. The slight difference in AR between 16 ga rings, and 20 ga rings with half the ID, along with the difference in springback, meant I'd have to completely redesign them to do them in gold and silver.

yup jewellery is easy i wouldnt know where to star something like that^^

HeruFeanor In reply to Nephri [2007-09-11 01:48:56 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if I'd make the generalization that jewelry is easy... The actual construction is typically a little easier, but the design can be just as difficult, at least in some cases. My point was that jewelry is easier to sell, mostly because I can put them in a much more reasonable price range, and they appeal to a much broader audience.

So do I. But I don't get to work on it much cause I have to focus on the stuff that's easier to sell in the short run, like jewelry.
