Description ------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Hey everyone. Warning that this is really out of date.
This is getting a whole lot of attention though. So I am
considering doing full expeditions on each class. It would take
a long time, as I would do a drawing with each. And there are 144
not including master classes (which I am also considering covering)
But I would do all of them, with explanations of their quest, roles
and powers.

If this is something you would find interesting.
Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading!
------------------------------------------------------------------

There seem to be lots of interesting abilities and roles that the titles give, and I thought I would try my hand at disambogulating all of them.
And yes, that is a word now.....Shoosh you!
----WARNING! REALLY FUCKING LONG!!!------

STRUCTURE AND RULES OF THE TITLES

The full titles are a combo of what I will call Role and Attribute. And follow the pattern "The Role of Attribute." But you all know this.
Those in the same universe all have different Roles and Attributes, thus, due to the Troll universe, we have seen 12 unique Roles and Attributes.
Jane's conversation with the uranianUmbra speaks of her and her friends meeting up with the other four two make 8 heros of legend.
This suggests that our four new children will have unique Roles and Attributes that differ from the previous children (so far this is true with Jane the Maid of Life and Jake the Page of Hope)

ROLES

Now I will go through the twelve roles seen, and discuss their meanings

MAID - Okay, we are aware of two Maids at this point. Aradia the Maid of Time, and Jane the Maid of Life. However we have yet to see much of Jane's in Game purpose, so we will focus on the much more interesting Aradia. Aradia has a strong role throughout the troll's session in maintaining the temporal destiny. If you recall, dead Aradia was constantly aware of the grand scheme. She knew that Karkat would be their leader, that there would be one team, that a frog was needed to be prototyped, and that their session was, in fact, doomed. Aradia also appears on cue to beat the crap out of Vriska in order for Virska to reach God tier, and also many doomed Aradias appear to assist in Battles. Finally, when in God tier, Aradia helps the dead fully comprehend the temporal outline before them, to discover the specific irregularities and important moments they had overlooked. Thus, I propose, my removing her element of time, that a Maid's role in session is to maintain the integrity of her Attribute. Aradia maintains the temporal structure, while Jane will have to maintain the Life of her allies. I suspect the first test of this will be to revive the dream body of the Page of Hope. I suspect the Maid of Life will have a lot of work cut out for her.

PAGE - Page is a much more difficult to discuss role than Maid, having no god tier reference. We have only seen the Tavros the Page of Breath, and Jake the Page of Hope. However, the definition of Page reads: A young person, usually in uniform, employed to run errands, open doors. We see the page pf Breath, many times, simply doing what he can, and what is necessary to assist others. To assist their Fate (I will discuss later, but I believe breath is about fate). An obvious failure was when he was to assist Vriska in becoming God Tier, but he could not kill her. Thus Jake, I suspect, as the Page of Hope, needs to constantly assist his allies when they loose Hope. (this is an odd one, as we have seen little of the Hope attribute, but a lot of Hints to a Jake -> Lord English Connection). In comparison to the Maid which maintains the Over-arching Attribute, the Page assists with the Attribute's effects on each person.

MAGE - Sollux is our only Mage at this point. The Mage of Doom. A mage, of course is one who wields strong Magical power, and often for battle. I would suspect that the Mage class uses their attribute in grand displays of power during battles or key moments. Sollux does this often, as I suspect Doom speaks to sacrifice. Sollux (thanks two his abilities of bifercation) has sacrificed himself many times in battle or in key moments (such as moving an entire asteroid two the green sun two avoid Jack Noir)

KNIGHT - Like the Mage, Knight is a battle Role. The Knight of Time, Dave, and the Knight of Blood, Karkat, are our exhibits of Knighthood. Dave has shown us plenty of times the ability two modify the time of his 1/2 kind in order to wield a mighty sword that it once was. In general, if we look at the difference between his and Aradia's use of time, we will be able to understand the difference of Roles. Aradia does not use time as a Weapon. She uses her troll-mind powers of telekinesis to fight. She does however use time to hold Jack in place, in order to maintain the temporal stability (ie. her existence) Dave, however, has been seen two use his time loops as a form of teleportation and duplication in battle. Dave uses any trick of time in order two defeat a foe, to place himself if the opportune moment in time for battle. Dave also avoids unstable time loops as Dead Daves are the enemy. While Aradia simply uses them as messengers and sends them into battle two die (as doomed time lines must be killed out for temporal stability). The Knight of Blood is trickier to discuss untill Blood has been discussed. However, while the Mage has dramatic set piece moments of power, the Knight maintains a battle position throughout the session

ROUGE – rouge is a VERY difficult role to discuss. We only have Nepeta, the Rouge of Heart as reference. However, rouges have always been those that operate in the shadows. Nepeta and her shipping walls, secret love of Karkat, and stealthy air duct sneaks suggest that a Rouge is meant to manipulate their attribute behind the scenes

SYLPH – We also only have one Sylph, Kanaya the Sylph of Space.  Slyph has two definitions: 1) An imaginary spirit of the air. 2) A slender woman or girl. We see very little "space-y" antics from Kanaya. But we see her cater much more two the creation of her race and universe (another responsibility of space according to Kanaya). The air-like Spirit I assume would come more into play in God-tier, and the Vampirism, I am going out on a limb and assuming this is due to troll shenanigans. However, I believe her Matriarchal watch over the matriorb is Kanaya's role.  Refereeing to the slender woman position. The loving care and protection of a specific object that only a woman can provide; this is the Sylph's role.

SEER – The role of seer has been thoroughly explained in relation to Rose the Seer of Light, and Terezi  the Seer of Mind. So I will skip to the summary on this one: the seer is able to see all of the possible paths and outcomes pertaining to their Attribute

THIEF – The thief role has been shown to us by Vriska, our Thief of Light. We know that light is the attribute of fortune, and Vriska likes to say she steals the luck of others. We, in fact, see her use this ability in battle moments before her final meeting with Tavros, where Vriska steals the luck of a monster, resulting in an nnFORTUNate outcome for him, the ground grumbling beneath his feat. One can also notice that Vriska can always turn a seemingly negative outcome for herself into a benefit and fully negative for her enemies. I suggest that the Thief class is not freely able to manipulate the attribute like other classes, but mainly displace the effects of the attribute.  Thus, a Thief of Space would not be able to force one object to grow without taking that mass from another object.

HEIR – The heir role is filled by John the Heir of Breath, and Equius the Heir of Void. The heir role suggest that that it has been passed down, that the 'player' was born into the role, and given it from the successors.  The heir role has been bequeathed a purpose based on their attribute, John has been given the responsibility of the fate of multiple universes, while Equius has been given the fate of....nothing....he does basically nothing substantial. The Heir's are then able to use their attribute in ways to help them to achieve that purpose.

BARD – We can only look at the Bard of Rage, Gamzee, for this role. The first definition of a bard refers to one that recites songs and poems (or raps?) and the second refers to wrapping bacon around other meat (om nom nom....murder). The first one applies the best. In many games, the bard class provides increased ability to allies using songs and poems. In this case, I suspect that the bard increases the effect of their attribute to those around them. We see Gamzee's actions (particularly those with horns) aggravating all those around (horn pile). Gamzee's later actions sent the group into a frenzy and instilled rage in all of them

PRINCE – The prince role has only been taken by the Prince of Hope, Eridan.  The best way to think of this role is that of the prince running in to save the princess on is white charger. The prince's role is to try to keep moving forward, to save do whatever he can to try to save those around him; Eridan constantly did this without thinking of the consequences of his actions, even in the end when he thought going to Jack was the best move, he was doing it to defend his allies

WITCH – The Witch role (seen in Jade the Witch of Space and Fefari the Witch of Life) uses their attribute similarly to the Mage role, in grand ways. However, unlike the Mage who uses it in dramatic battles or key moments of desperation, the Witch uses her abilities to further the, for lack of a better word, plot. The witch feats the otherwise impossible to turn the tables in their favour (we see this in Jade....Fefari however also does this when reviving Sollux). Basically, that crazy thing? A witch did it.

ATTRIBUTES
Okay, now for the attributes. I have them in their shirt order, and you may notice that they are coupled quite nicely
BREATH – Again, we have an Heir (John), and a Page (Tavros) of Breath. John discovers that he has the ability to control the wind, which is pretty cool indeed. But I do not think this is the extent of Breath's power...else why not call it wind? If we recall John's planet The Land of Wind and Shade, we can remember things are brought to their needed place by the breeze, that is wind brings them to their fated place. Thus I suggest that Breath represents Fate. John can manipulate the fate of an object by moving it with the wind, or ending its fate with a tornado drill. Thus a Seer of light, for example, might see the fates of those around them.

LIGHT  - Our Seer of Light (Rose) and Thief of Light (Vriska) have explained to us that Light is in fact Fortune. Rose can see the all paths that bring beneficial outcomes, and Vriska can steal the "luck" of others. A Knight of Light might find their attacks land critical hits, while their opponents only miss and graze.

TIME – I feel this one is deadly obvious by now....so yeah....not going into it

SPACE – Jade, the Witch of Space explains that Space abilities allow her to shrink and grow things, as well as move and fling things around at high velocities, though she is unsure how much of this power is hers, and how much she acquired from merging with Bec. Kanaya, the Sylph of Space, also explains that it is the Hero of Space's ability to bread the frog that will create the next universe. Besides this, Space powers, like time, are very straight forward

MIND – Terezi, the Seer of Mind, possesses the ability to fully understand the thought process and outcomes of those around her. It would be fair to assume that other mind-like abilities could include telepathy, and mind control depending on the wielder. A Rouge of Mind, for example, might even be able to trick her enemies minds so that she would not be seen.

HEART – Our Rouge of Heart, Kanaya, did not give us much to go on....but I suspect that the heart attribute plays out similarly to the Mind, only in regards to emotions. A Seer of Heart can understand the emotions of the hearts around them, while a Bard of Heart might be able to amplify certain emotions of those around themselves

LIFE – Both our Witch of Life, Fefari, and the Maid of Life, Jade, have done very little life-y techniques. Though Fefari did convince the Derse Gods to create the dream bubbles for the dead to communicate with the living, and her Ancestor had the ability to bring life back to those they heal. I believe Life would mainly be a healing type of power. Perhaps a Knight of Life would have regeneration?

VOID – I cannot take credit for realizing that our Heir of Void, Equius, was creating the dark spots for Doc Scratch.  My housemate Marissa was the one who pointed it out to me. I suspect all the Seers would have trouble viewing a hero of Void. I speculate that Void would have the ability to negate the powers of those around them. I also suspect that they have a connection with the outer ring, which would make sense as to why Doc Scratch is also effected, Jade explains that the Guardians cannot teleport to the outer ring, that they power does not reach there. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, an Heir's purpose is based on their Attribute, thus Equius the Heir of Void, has no purpose.

HOPE- Similar to Life, both the Prince (Eridan), and Page (Jake) of Hope have yet to display any Hope-y powers. So I am left to speculate. It is difficult to figure what abilities may arise from Hope, to raise moral? Perhaps Hope ingenuity. A Seer of Hope would be able to see possible solutions to problems, a Mage of Hope would be able to conjure the needed supplies to destroy an enemy. It is a stretch, but it is the best I have got.

DOOM – Sollux, our Mage of Doom, states that he can hear the voices of the soon to be deceased.  I suspect that he may be hearing voices from the doomed timelines (notice how Hussie always refers to these timelines as doomed). A seer of Doom then, might be able to see the Doomed outcomes of poor choices. I also mentioned earlier, the aspect of Sacrifice. A Doomed timeline must always be sacrificed, it must be cut off. Thus, I suspect that when one manipulates the Attribute Doom (such as Sollux does when fulfilling his Mage role mentioned earlier) there must be sacrifice. Many times Sollux has died to save his comrades from dooming themselves. Thankfully he was blessed with a plethora of lives.

BLOOD – there is currently only the Knight of Blood, Karkat, and he has done very little for us to discuss his attribute well. So I had to do some digging. In EoA5: Cascade, Jack Noir uses an ability called Red Miles (Which I believe to be a Blood Fraymotif).  We may also notice that Karkat spends a lot of time seeing his allies fall, and spends little time bleeding himself. And that Jack does not use his own blood, but Wayward Vagabond's to perform the attack. Foremost, I think Blood has a form of Sangomancy, but may also be focused around the death of allies, and vengeance, using their blood as a weapon.

RAGE – Here we have Gamzee, the Bard of Rage. Again we have little to go on, but I think the Rage attribute is responsible for Gamzee's outburst, as well as the heightened levels of tension, battle, and bloodshed the trolls experience on the asteroid. I suspect Rage has to do with going into a Berserk mode and obtaining a heighted level of ability. Karkat mentions Gamzee doing something of the likes in the battle against the black king.

GUESSTIMATIONS???
Okay, so there are three characters without titles at this point.  Young Mom Lalonde, Young Bro Strider, and uranianUmbra
RL -> again my housemate Marissa mentioned to me that UU comments on her lack of ability to accurately communicate with Lalonde. This is a strong hint towards Void; which would make sense as there are no children with Void yet, and the Heir of Void is dead and needing a replacement (Jane and Jake have replaced Eridan and Fefari). As for her role, three come to mind: Sylph, Thief, and Rouge. Sylph comes to mind mainly due to her original motherly position, however, she wasn't very maternal, so perhaps not. However, Lalonde has shown some sneaky computer displays, expressing potential Theif and Rouge abilities. Yet, I personally lean towards Thief currently, as she focused on her thieving hacker abilities. Also so is too drunk and loud to be a Rouge.

DS -> Strider perplexes me, as he is meant to. I lean towards a more battle-focused title for him, due to bro's power.  Knight is taken by Dave, though Mage, Rouge, and even Prince might fit. Yet because of his intense complexities and understanding of the human mind and emotion (he makes AI) I would assume his abilities to be that of Mind or Heart (though the thought of bro in a pink outfit makes me chuckle that will not affect my decision). I am torn as we still have a living Mind troll, and no Heart troll...but I personally still lean towards Mind, mainly because of his mention to a scan of Jade's Brain. Finally, due to his super coolness and flash-stepping.....I am going with Rouge of Mind.

UU -> this mystery troll has said they are entering a session as well, thus it is only natural they have a title. It mentions of going to the trouble of linking the two discussions together so they can start together....yet has extensive knowledge of the outcome. Thus I am guess a Seer of Time, one who can see the Alpha time line at its whole.

According to a test, I'm the Knight of Space. (I have heard Knight is non-gendered. Correct or not? Because I am a girl.)
So what exactly would a Knight of Space do, to simplify it all?

I kinda want to make my OC be a 'Thief of Space' but I don't think it's that great of a idea. I just wanted to know if you think it's a good combination for her, at first I thought Jade was a 'Mage of Space' so I wanted to give her the title of 'Witch of Space' but then I realized that Jade has that title. Can you please give me suggestions for '(God tier class) of Space', but anyway, this was a great help understanding the God tier classes etc.

So a Sylph of Breath would be like a Protector of Fate....in a way?? I read they would be more of a healer of weather and undo debuffs that would hurt over time. Also they would be able to heal others with wind, but it would not be very strong. What is you take on it? (I understand this is old, just wondering. )

My opinions on both of these have changed since this original post, so I will just be more our less "typing out loud" as I figure this out.

Breath is the concept of freedom, and the ethereal spirit. It is opposed to blood which is the connection to all things material and earthly. The breath player hates being tied down and likes to flow with the wind, hence the wind being the form at which their powers manifest.

The Sylph is a healing class, we know that as cannon now. It isn't "the one who heals" but that is a good guess. This doesn't mean their powers are necessarily mean they cannot be combative. Consider Aranea who has show to be aggressive as of late. It all depends on how an ability is used.

So we have someone who "heals freedom" or "heals the spirit" what does this mean, and how would it manifest? Well the later question is easy, through wind. Then we must look what it means to heal one's freedom. Well the easy way to look at it, is the Sylph of Breath removes the barriers holding back herself and her team. (I use "her" because thus far Sylph seems mostly female). This may be as simple as healing simple wounds, or as complex as turning into an ethereal form (or their allies into an ethereal form) in order to free them from their surroundings. In a more aggressive form they may use wind to push enemies or other things away from them.

Basically I would say the Sylph of Breath would act as a team support. They would have a lot of control of the battlefield by using wind to keep danger from their allies by either turning things ethereal or freeing up allies by keeping their enemies away from them. Off the battlefield they would be able to mend the allies and assist them by freeing them from what holds them back.

I am sorry if this is a little loose of an explination and isn't very concise. I am just having trouble figure out how to explain this one.

Couldnt Blood also represent unity? As in being close to others, as if you are connected by blood.

these are all incredibly old....if you check some of my more recent reactions to people's questions my concept of many classes and aspects (including blood) have changed.

Yes Blood is often paired as the opposite of Breath.

Breath being freedom, the spirit, self
Blood being connections, the material self, unity

so... prince of space would....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hew91 In reply to ImaSplee1 [2014-01-24 03:54:52 +0000 UTC]

I am trying to find a way to make this something other than "you break stuff real good."
But I mean.....that is it at the core.

The prince is a highly active class. They are "the one who destroys" or "the one who destroys through."

Space is the physical representation of the world.

With these things in mind the latter seems somewhat....off.

The way I see it the prince of space is really good a destroying things....likely better than anyone else.

I would say this is probably one of the most active classes out there. And I suspect the princes powers

are very explosive. In fact he likely has problems leaving anything less that catastrophic devastation when he uses his powers.

He may have to be very careful not to catch allies and innocents in the blast.

You can get into so pretty silly jokes a-la Equius and his milk.

"Destroying that mountain? No prob. Breaking that apple atop my friends head. Oh geez I am sweating so hard...I must concentrate else I will obliterate my friend."

Now the over destruction is my way of giving the power some of good ol' homestuck twist to a powerful tier.

You don't have to take that....but be it role, power, or characteristics......the prince of space at heart breaks things.....physically breaks them real good

What would a witch of doom do or what does it mean to be one

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Hew91 In reply to MohawkKitty [2014-01-24 03:34:35 +0000 UTC]

Sorry this has taken so long.
I have actually been pretty stumped on this. (I also had a long DA hiatus...) I am going to walk you through my thought process on this...so bare with me.

So when it comes to witches we have both the Witch of Space and Witch of Life as reference.
The former has been seen giving full manipulation of the size of objects, while the latter has been seen returning the life to the Mayor. Or perhaps better but, manipulating his state of life.
It is safe to say Witch is a highly active class that has full manipulation of their aspect.

Then what does this mean when applied to Doom?
We often look at Doom as the opposite of life. We have little reference to it in canon. Aside from Sollux and Mitua who both never reached God Tier.
So basically we can pull from Sollux and Mituna for ideals for the role of our witch....but will mostly look to Feferi for the abilities.

Sollux was a Mage of Doom, and my running theory with Mage suggests an inherent knowledge granting ability to utilize and manipulate. The idea is "the one who knows."
He hears voices of the doomed, and often circumvents death, having an extra dream body, and even after that maintaining only a state of half death for a period of time.

In fact Sollux is the one who wrote the ATH code, that in fact, ended two universes at once. It was stated that he simply had a knack for coding this.

Sollux's role was to understand doom, death, and the impending end of their session. It was his job to understand it was coming, and help guild the team through this.

Mituna, as the Heir (a title which I have changed opinions on frequently) was "the one who becomes doom." He two had a somewhat prophetic nature with doom, but

was disregarded. He ended up sacrificing himself in a bout of of psychic prowess. It is said it saved his companions from an impending doom....but in the process fried his own brain.

It could be suggested that this is where he fulfilled his roll. He saved his team from Doom, by taking the doom onto himself....he became doomed.

Recall that the witch has is "the one who controls." (Or rather that is what I believe, we have yet to get a true definition)
So in the sense of controlling doom as a roll in the party, in means that she has direct influence on the end of most things. Death, destruction, all the sort follows her. It may not be intentional...

it could also be read as the opposite....perhaps she is able to help things live slightly longer than before, by manipulating their doom...changing it just slightly.
She might have a slightly less active role than most....yet her intents are always active....though they may be shrouded and played from the shadows....nothing ends until she lets it end.

It is also worth noting she may create the end of something quite important....consider that the lands have been brought to the beat universe because Jade made it happen, and the dream bubbles

were created (basically creating an afterlife) because Feferi communed with the horror-terrors.

Now then.....powers.

This is difficult without making her powers "she makes things die." Because lets face it....Hussie isn't ever so blunt....and wouldn't just break his world.

It is very probable that the powers revolve around this though....with a catch. For example the Maid of life can only revive someone once...
We aren't sure what Feferi's are entirely....just that she can heal at the very least...and likely revive one from the dead. (We can't say for SURE the mayor was dead....but it is likely)
So then....you are actively manipulating the doom of something.....here is my idea

The Witch would have the ability to understand the doom of something (all doom players seem to have a hint of prophetic ability). Not to the extent to a mage or seer....but if she focuses

she can understand the doom of an object or individual....how it will die. She can then use her abilities to actively change that....change how they will die...possibly even when....but the greater the

changes the power power and time it takes her. She COULD outright cause someone's heart to stop.....but if they were originally supposed to die in an explosion ten years later she can't do it right away.

This balances the power somewhat (just as how our prince of heart can't immediately rip the soul from the body....it takes time)

She is definitely a scary and powerful entity that would likely only be created by Skaia for very specific purposes.

As explained, knights fight for or with their abilities, your's being "luck" (OR beneficial outcomes to yourself or others), you may as well have complete luck in battle, a perfect win streak if you will, or might fight for others to have luck, like a sacrifice so your friends could escape a PURELY DANGEROUS enemy? Hopes this helps!

Quick question: what exactly does it mean to be a Knight of Light? (also, mine is the best because it rhymes xD) (oh and this really helped clear some things up thanks!)

Light is a funny aspect. It has been defined differently by many characters.
We have Vriska who calls it luck, Rose describes her powers as being able to see the paths that benefit her most, and Aranea describes it as the opposite of void....as all that you can see and know.

So what does this mean? Well lets look at the three characters themselves. They are all obsessed with gathering information and intel in order to have the upper hand.
I believe as Aranea says, that the Light aspect is the opposite of void. It encompasses what light can be cast upon. But when we cast light into the darkness what are we hoping for...we are hoping to find our path,
we are hoping to find that which we need, what we are looking for. That which benefits us. The Thief sees this as luck, because she is steeling beneficial outcomes from the enemy, and increasing benefits for her.
The seer sees it as the most beneficial path and the Sylph sees it as light as she can heal the sight and vision of companions. However she also believes she can turn a doomed timeline into an alpha timeline by healing it to become the beneficial path.

So then How does the Knight wield this Light.
In this case I would return to the concept of luck. But also of knowledge. In battle knowing where to hit to inflict damage, and then also getting lucky and breaking that bone on the first try are huge boons.
A Knight of Light isn't likely to miss their shot, they know where to strike to inflict damage, and when they do hit...the worse possible outcome for the enemy happens. In terms of gaming you could say.
1) They now the sweet spots
2) The almost always get a critical hit

Their hasn't been a Thief of Hope as far as I know, and just researched, but their has been the Thief of Light (Vriska) and the Thief of Life (Meenah) who both stole something from their respective alternate reality groups (the winning game blow, and the lives of her friends respectively).

Well, I mean... Um... Just my comp lit the word "Theif" like a flare torch in a dark cave, and I presumed people read up there that it was spelled Thief? I before E except after C? I don't mean to sound harsh or ignorant, just confused on the matter?

I am working on something quite big that includes an update to this....however you will have to wait and see on that....
it also may not be completed until homestuck is finished....so we have more information on same classes

But yes I agree this is quite out of date

If you havn't already, could you look for info on the Lord and Muse titles?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hew91 In reply to Destroyah93 [2013-12-19 20:00:25 +0000 UTC]

I did a post forever ago on my Tumblr about it.

In short I believe Muse and Lord to be responsible for the creation and destruction of their aspects respectively.
I have little to prove this....however I believe this to be the most passive and active one can be.
