I don't care what anyone says about this movie--it's the most intense, the most awesome, and the deepest most psychological slasher I've ever seen. A scary movie...actually worth watching.

Not bad. I enjoyed reading your reviews...haha. You've went above and beyond in your search for a horrific thrill or whatever leads you to watch scary stuff...those movies you watched looked like low-budget cut shit...like the stuff they play on the Sci-Fi channel. Yeah. Those damn original, butt-ugly graphic-filled movies. Ugh.
Ha. But your reviews are legit, regardless. If I were to compare "the Strangers" to any of those...there'd be no competition. "the Strangers" is like my favorite scary movie. For a reason.

Well, these are 80s slashers/thrillers, of course. The Strangers is based on the 70s style of home invasion horror flicks. These, however, came from the golden days of their genre, so expect them to be a little...retro.
I take, from your reaction, you're not a slasher fan. I kinda assume you were since you called The Strangers, a slasher flick, Good. But in case I'm wrong, I do like The Strangers, but when it comes to real thrills, that film has a lot to owe to the classics.

I never thought about what "the Strangers" was based on.
I was under the impression that it was based on so-called "true" events.
But when I looked up the events of 2.11.05 or whatever date it was...I found out that it wasn't really true. Kristen and James are made up.

actually, it is based on some true cases such as the keddie Murders, where a family of six and their friend was attacked one night bu an unknown assailant/s. four of them died from said attack as the other two weren't around during the murders. [link]
I think I get what you're getting at here; You don't like "bodycount" slashers, a term I gave to sub-types of slasher films which concentrates on heavy bodycounts, with varying special effects, all of which sacrificing story. Well, sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. I take it you would rather watch cerebral slashers, well if that is the case then I would recommend you "Perfect Blue" (a 1997/8 anime slasher film with a lot of mystery), Tenebre (1982) (a murder mystery concerning a novelist's visit to Rome met a spot of trouble when a madman is basing his murders on his book) or my favorite "Golden Title" Happy Birthday to me (1981)

Hmm...and the murderers are most likely still alive today.
It's kinda intriguing that they were thorough enough that they weren't caught.
Or maybe that's my morbid curiosity kicking in.

I see how that would be an influence to the Strangers. I wish the damn movie hadn't made up that shit about February 11th, 2005 and the Hoyt home. 
I suppose I'm contradicting myself. I think back on the Strangers...though there wasn't a whole lot of slashing in it...there was little story, as well. Most of the movie was watching two terrified people running around and getting chased and toyed with in psychotic ways. Maybe it really just depends on the movie itself...I've been wanting to see the Scream movies for awhile now.
I've noted those titles...I'll be watching for 'em.

The Strangers is one of those slashers that concentrates more on the thrills than the gore. There's a lot of those back then but directors today (as well as the public) demand blood, so yeah, you can pretty tell why this movie had "mixed feelings" from the viewers.

True. I think it was also because of the way it ended. Set up like it was, I guess a LOT of people thought that the two people in the house were fighting to survive--and would survive. It's not one of those movies, but that's what people say, anyhow. "It's a stupid ending." But if you're watching a movie and it's even close to this genre, what can one expect, ya know?

I don't know...I heard the sequel was nothing more than a rumor nowadays, like there was no development going on whatsoever. Nothing more than an idea...
...and I don't think she survived. That thing the Mormon boys said could verify that she isn't alive, but too late, Tyler is supposed to be in the second movie, sooo...obviously the writers of what would have been the second film think that she could survive all that.
So she most likely did, then.

Wow, nice version, man. They're quite into the original style but the masks have some slightly twisted expression that looks really crazy, specially with The Man' and Pin-up' , there's something in the expressions that looks like if the masks could move.
Still that way, there's something strangely... cute in Dollface's general look.Really interesting.
