Here is the new and improved character reference for my interpretation of the monstrous Minotaur for my series, Mythologies: Journey Through The Ancient World.EDIT: AddedΒ a human silhouette to show off its size.

Alas, poor Asterion, born from the lust of a cursed woman made to suffer for the hubris of Gods and Kings. Forsaken to go mad from loneliness and starvation in a maze, loathed by all, and driven to cannibalism to maintain his wretched existence. Theseus may have done him a favor putting him out of his misery.

Oh yes...Asterios, the Minotaur...son of Queen Pasiphae and the Cretan Bull...
And to think...if Minos had kept his end of the bargain and just sacrificed that animal like he promised, Poseidon wouldn't have punished him by making Pasiphae lust for the bull...thus creating Asterios in the process.Β

This is actually how I pictured the Minotaur whenever I thought of the myth; a frightening creature that was also abused by his keepers.Β All he was to His stepfather, Minos, was a weapon of war.Β It's for that reason the Minotaur holds some of my sympathy.

Along with Gargoyles and some animes and cartoons. It tends to happen with alot of old myths and stories: Sometimes the baddy is a goody, and moral is turned around. Speaking of which, do you think the whole darker/gothic take of stories like Alice in Wonderland have been done to death?
