SONIC FRONTIERS SPOILERS AHEAD!
---
So I've been working on this really huge artwork based on part of Sonic Frontiers. My take on how the massive showdown of the Ancients using their Titans against The End must've gone like. Their four gargantuan Chaos-Emerald-empowered battle machines taking on this apocalyptic horror using everything they got and not holding back!
The original game's scene just showed us the finale part of the battle where Supreme's operator decides to take one for the team and sacrifice himself in order to seal The End where she could do no harm. If the scene showed us more of the actual battle (which you gotta admit, would've been so much cooler), I bet it would have gone something like this. I decided to draw just that.
This artwork really took a toll on my Adobe Fireworks. My program crashed several times and I had to restart a bunch of times, making me have to save my work more often, but I felt it was worth it.
The Titans were a real pain to draw but I feel I got them pretty much the way they should look. Wyvern had to be the most difficult to draw for me. I added some more detail to The End so she doesn't just look like a big circle too. Adobe Fireworks helped me make the laser blast and explosion effects cooler and helped me change the shape so it showed they were converging on something. I think Knight ended up looking best overall in this though.
I also decided to add this thing of the Ancient Operators of each Titan shown to the corners, in a way reminiscent of certain anime series I've seen. Thought it would look cooler that way. I was also going to add some Blue Lasers originally from the Ancients' Surface-To-Space cannons that were shown also being used in the battle during the flashback scenes on Chaos Island, but it looked too cluttered so I just stuck with projectiles from the Titans and The End.
I've had this personal headcanon that each Titan was designed with a specific combat specialty in mind, with Giganto being designed for Attack, Wyvern being designed for Speed, Knight being designed for Defense, and Supreme being designed for Balance. I tried to illustrate that here with the way Wyvern is moving and missile raiding, and Knight is blocking an incoming laser shot with its Buzzsaw Shield.
As shown in the True Last Boss battle against The End on Hard Mode, Supreme's attacks COULD in fact damage her, she wasn't totally and completely invulnerable. So given by that, I have to believe that the Titans WERE in fact capable of harming The End. I don't consider it to be a "Hopeless Boss" if they still could damage her, and she wasn't 100% Super Mega Hyper Uber Ultra Impervious to everything. They could have still destroyed her, they just gotta keep hitting her until her HP meter drops to zero.
But on the other hand, as shown in the game, time was totally not on their side at this point. The cutscenes showed that The Ancients only had so much time to prepare for The End attacking the Earth, and The End still was beginning her assault on the planet even while the battle was taking place, and a lot of them were getting killed on the Starfall Islands as she rained laser fire down on the planet. With so little time before The End would succeed in going full Death Star upon their new home, too many of his people dying, and the Titans not finishing her off quick enough, this is probably what then motivated Supreme's operator to sacrifice himself and seal The End within his Titan as his last resort. At least that's how I see it.
I also have this headcanon that given how it was established that the Kocos are small statues possessed by the ghosts of the dead Ancients who could not depart from this mortal coil until they complete their unfinished business, I like to believe that Hermit Koco was possessed by the ghost of Supreme's operator. He did appear to have a higher status than most of the other Kocos at least. The reason I think he could not depart yet was most likely because his unfinished business was destroying The End, but with The End only trapped and not destroyed just yet, he still had to remain a ghost possessing the statue known as Hermit Koco until Sonic and Sage finally finished it for him.
While I feel that Elder Koco was probably possessed by that other Ancient who walked with a hunch and was seen with him at scenes like when they were creating the Titans and he said they'd take the Chaos Emeralds to the Master Emerald if the Titans didn't succeed. That specific hunched Ancient was specifically referred to as "Elder" by the others, and he seemed to care for the smaller Ancients like Elder Koco cares for the lost Kocos, so it would make sense that his ghost possessed Elder Koco after death.
What do you think of that?
It was really a pain to draw this but I feel it was worth it, and I'm satisfied at how utterly epic this looks. But the Sonic series as a whole has been the most awesome and cute and epic series in both anime and games that I've ever seen, so I feel this goes well with that. Way more detailed and involved than most of what I usually draw. I really am proud of this, and Sonic Frontiers really was an utterly awesome game in my opinion. Now my Adobe Fireworks needs a break though after all I just put it through to make this artwork.
I really wish someone could actually animate out how the whole entire battle of the Titans Vs The End would have played out though. If someone could do it in Source Filmmaker or something, I'd probably even pay to see that made! It would just be way too uber mega ultra hyper epic to see in full, rather than just the last part of it being sealed within Supreme, wouldn't you agree? Though the game was still satisfying for me, I just feel seeing this battle would've made it so much cooler.
If anyone is interested in hearing how I personally imagine the whole battle would've gone, just ask.
EDIT: Apparently with the Last Horizon update, we see the actual Kocos who are possessed by the ghosts of the Titan Operators, including Supreme's. Well at least my theory for Elder Koco still holds up.
