Description Grand Prism is the overarching antagonist of the Cartoon Network TV series Steven Universe.

He is an alien cyborg scientist, who aims to forcibly enhance lower life forms or inanimate objects into anthropomorphic humanoids to create what he deems the perfect society.

He is also the creator of the Homeworld Gems, which includes the Great Diamond Authority, he completely outranks White Diamond herself since she is his creation. He is also known for annihilating many planets he created just because they didn’t suit his twisted standards and used many alien species into his horrifying experiments.

He is voiced by Jimmi Simpson, who also voiced Dr. Royce Hemlock from Star Wars: The Bad Batch and portrayed the younger version of William from Westworld, Skip Tyler from White House Down, Liam McPoyle in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Spencer Clay from The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Personality

While Grand Prism is a soft-spoken and seemingly courteous man, he is in reality an extremely twisted individual. He is also a deluded, jealous, cruel, and overall heartless egomaniac, who just wants everything his version of "perfection". He is horrifyingly cruel, as he experimented on many alien species with no regard of how much pain they would be in, abuses his experiments in various ways, and whenever things don't go according to his planning, he not only has them incinerated, but also destroys whatever world disappointments him as a means of starting over again.

Grand Prism is also incredibly delusional, believing himself to be a “god”, and that he is “perfecting” the universe. He can be obsessed with perfection, showing how far he’ll go to get it by trying to merge Homeworld with Earth so he can re-make it into “perfection”.

He is greatly feared among his staff and the Homeworld Gems, because of what punishment he can do to them if they fail him in the slightest, as he tortured White Diamond for her failures in the past. But after finally realizing what an egotistical lunatic he was, she turned on him, leading him to killing all Diamonds remorselessly, showing his lack of tolerance for disobedience.

History

Grand Prism is an alien scientist who lived in a planet which he declared imperfect due to his kind's many flaws, so he destroyed his planet with everyone living in it extinguished. Therefore, he decided to create his own perfect race, establishing a planet called Counter-Earth to serve as his base and kidnapping several alien creatures and mechanically modifying them to develop this race, with some of the early experiments ended up in failure due to their savage nature. He directly oversees some of the most bizarre and inhumane experimentations on many species which ended in failure, so he had to exterminate any of the experiments he deemed imperfect or unfit to his twisted standards of perfection.

Visit of Earth and creation of the Homeworld Gems

Sometime in the Cretaceous Era of the Dinosaurs, he visited Earth to find more creatures to continue his experiments. However, he found fascination towards gemstones like diamonds, rubies, sapphires, pearls, and many others. So he collected them and used them for his inhumane experiments, which he created White Diamond then her sisters Yellow, Blue and Pink, which he considered them as the most perfect, powerful and absolutely flawless gems by virtually all of their peers, and it was because of him that they rose to power over the entirety of the gem species which he created, using the influence they gathered to collectively cull a massive following of any "lesser" gems, or Crystal Gem rebellion or Off Colored gems.

Trivia

* He is based on the High Evolutionary from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 and Dr. Royce Hemlock from Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
* He is easily the most cruel, sadistic villain Steven Universe and the Crystal Gems had ever faced, seeing him for the malevolent monster he truly is.
