Yes, I saw that shot at the time. Looked very painful.

I've owned some HUGE cats (and not necessarily fat, just mongrel bred and big), but this one looks really huge. I'm not used to seeing a wild cat that looks like a domesticated. Our bobcats look more like small mountain lions. Our wild cats that resemble domesticated, are in fact, wild domesticated breed... a bit larger... and not something you'd want to cuddle right off. I'm speaking of this part of CA. Dunno about other states. We do get foxes and coyotes here, bears (my eldest niece is further up the mountain and sees at least one a year, even crossing the highway), mountain lions (my niece saw one of those too). I've heard the foxes a few years ago, and more recently what my g'neph said were coyotes. In my youth during all the camping trips I've seen and heard all kinds of animals.

Now that would be exciting, I have never seen any sort of wild animal roaming free. The biggest wild animal we have here in Shetland are otters.

You actually got near one?Wow!!I've been reading bout these guys for years. There existence was threatened for a while. We have some wildcats over here but they are so distinct that you would be hard pressed to call them cats anymore, like the Bobcat and the Lynx.

They are tough buggers. If your Uncle saw one in the 60's they were weighing a good 35-40 lbs. They were pretty tough customers.I don't think a wolf would've messed with one.
