That sounds like a real shame... I am lucky my birthday is in July, so it's cold here.

Random thoughts: They would probably be better off outside and in the shade until nightfall, or the AC gets fixed. The house would definitely be hotter inside than outside. Depending on where you live, it could get upwards of 140 degrees or more. I learned this the hard way.
