Mel and Sera were planning on wishing us all a happy new year, but, frankly they were too exhausted to be staying up past midnight and partying.Also, Mel looks like Rei now, I guess? I guess I really need to iron out a design for her that isn't wholly derivative of Roppenmatsu/Rei/Kiyone Makibi.
Hey, Kiyone, there's someone I've been meaning to see pregnant for ages!
Anyway, shh! They're sleeping! And it's been 2009 for an hour over here in eastern Australia, so for all you guys STUCK IN THE PAST, MAN, Happy New Year!

Sera's expression and pose are great! She looks well and truly exhausted, as if she just slumped onto the couch and immediately fell asleep. Mel/Rei looks comfy though, as she opted for a pillow and some cute bunny slippers, and she looks a lot more content, too. I suppose it works well with her rather sunny personality, too.
The colours add a nice touch, too; the dark blues really make it look like it's late, and the lack of light makes me think that the poor girls missed the midnight festivities. I love the detail on the bellies too, like the outward bellybuttons and the linea nigra.
The only thing that looks off is the jagged part of Mel's shirt, but it's no big deal.
