Description Height comparison for the main characters of my Naruto fanfiction Journey of the Three Failures.

"Story, start" data is projected a bit from the given Part I heights of canon, as the story begins in the October following the Chuunin exams. Canon Part II data is provided for reference, while at "story, current," chronologically, we're between Part I and Part II.

Story, start / Part II (canon) / Story, current

Uzumaki Naruto:
Height: 146.4 cm / 166 cm / 161 cm
Weight: 40.4 kg / 50.9 kg / 48 kg
Age: 13 (even) / 15 / 14, 2 months

Rock Lee:
Height: 160 cm / 172 cm / 168 cm
Weight: 47 kg / 54.7 kg / 61.2 kg
Age: 13, 11 months / 17 / 15, 1 month

Hyuuga Hinata:
Height: 147.3 cm / 160 cm / 156.2 cm
Weight: 38.1 kg / 44.9 kg / 55.3 kg solid muscle
Age: 12, 10 months / 16 / 14 (even)

Hyuuga Hanabi:
Height: 133 cm / (?) / 139 cm
Weight: 29.3 kg / (?) / 33.2 kg
Age: 7, 7 months / ~10 / 8, 10 months

Hyuuga Neji:
Height: 159.7 cm / 172.1 cm / 170 cm
Weight: 46.4 kg / 54.2 kg / 60 kg
Age: 14, 3 months / 17 / 15, 5 months

In order of descending height: Neji, Lee, Naruto, Hinata, Hanabi
In order of descending weight: Lee, Neji, Hinata, Naruto, Hanabi

--

I tried to place all current heights at roughtly the expected amount, but for some reason ended up leaning further toward Part II despite the chronological location... Meh, let's just say I goofed up growth spurts happened then

Naruto's and Hanabi's weights aren't altered much from an 'expected' course, except for Naruto maybe leaning closer to Part II in this case because of the height, and because he should be physically stronger than his canon counterpart at the specific time between Part I and Part II. Hinata, Lee, and Neji are all actually heavier than their Part II versions.

With this being an alternate timeline and the three 'failures' being out of the village, in their case, the reduced amount of time spent on missions and the increased amount of time spent on training, fighting, surviving, and more training in the hope of surviving, would be some reasons that they're physically stronger and heavier.

Lee, in addition, we can probably assume has been training the hardest, and building muscle to wield his weight-amplified katana. Besides -- for instance, Lee's 'expected' weight for the given time in canon would probably be about 50 kilograms (around 110-115 lbs), which just doesn't seem realistic for a male, fifteen-year-old exercise addict of his height. For comparison, when I was sixteen and about the same height, I weighed 150 pounds from a fairly intense basketball practice/summer conditioning camp routine that wouldn't remotely compare to what we can assume is Lee's average workout. I exercise/condition less rigorously now, and fell to 135 lbs, which is about the weight I gave Lee; from this perspective, this still seems pretty light for the guy, but I didn't want to push him too far past his Part II weight.

Hinata? Yep, she's heavier than the current Naruto, whose weight I tried not to mess with. Han'you are made differently; let's assume demon muscle and bone have higher densities, 'kay? And, again, her part II weight is 99 pounds. WTH

Neji is also heavier than in part II, because of the Blood Seal's changes to the body. These might be similar changes to those of a han'you, but not quite as drastic; hence, Neji's increase isn't as dramatic as Hinata's.

I can't explain something quickly. It just does not happen. >.<

Haha, I somehow didn't notice until I'd gotten a good way through drawing this, but the scale indeed makes little sense (if you compare where the feet should be based on proportion, to where the floor should be based on the measuring wall, all five would have to be floating in the air ) Poor planning on my part; I might go back and adjust this along with a few other issues eventually, if I do a digital version of this. ...At least, I'm guessing the scale issue is what you were getting at? Unless you're just referring to the fact that the feet/shoes should probably be included in a reference drawing. I probably chose to cut it at the lower shins out of laziness, but of course, this enabled the aforementioned oversight...

Well, Naruto's are his whisker marks, and who knows how to classify those? Then Lee's from the fight with Mifune described in the opening of his sidestory; his Samehada scar from chapter 19 of the main story is also partially visible on his chest. Then, of course, Hinata's from an attack from Neji in chapter 4...

Lol, 19 and 4 are two of the more violent chapters, now that I think about it

I couldn't help but notice that you feature Hanabi in this posted picture, and in the updated stats. How involved is she in the story, and what kind of relationship does she have with Naruto? It isn't every day that I find a story involving my girl, so I'm hesitantly excited to see if yours might be something I could really get into. But if Hanabi isn't really involved with the story and just gets listed here for some other reason, or if she is involved with the story but has no relationship with Naruto (either now or in the future), I'd like to know so that I don't get my hopes up and spend the time to read this, only to become disgruntled that she isn't more prominent or isn't very good friends with Naruto (now or in the future).

Care to throw me a bone?

Hinata0321 In reply to LunaHanabi [2013-06-09 03:27:03 +0000 UTC]

Sure

Hanabi's involvement in the story is more than minor; at least, there's enough that when she gets a good deal of focus, those readers who don't care for Hanabi tend to ask that I get back to the rest of them Among the five main characters, however, I'd say that Naruto, Hinata, and Lee get the most focus.

I should point out that the story splits up the characters into two groups early on, so to speak; Naruto, Hinata, and Lee flee the village, and we see their efforts to become stronger and aid in the overthrowing of Orochimaru, who's taken over the Leaf village. We see the struggle/civil war within the village through Hanabi's and Neji's eyes -- with Hanabi, the resistance comprised of shinobi loyal to the Leaf, and with Neji, the upholding of Orochimaru's regime, to which he is allied.

The three outcasts don't return to the village until late in the story; as a result, there's no direct interaction between them for the large majority of the story. Since it is an action/adventure focused story, shipping is of secondary importance; the only really substantiated pairing is actually NaruHina, which itself doesn't see much prominence until after a timeskip following chapter 14. Naruto and Hanabi don't even meet until the latest chapter, chapter 26, and at this point the story is pretty close to wrapping up.

Hanabi debuts in chapter one as a loving sister, and a Main House Hyuuga with a curious lack of interest in someday leading the clan. Following the outbreak of the Leaf's conflict, she is forced to flee a Hyuuga Clan now ruled by Neji; subsequently, her role in this story is to give an inside perspective on the endeavors of the resistance, and to be a beacon of hope to the minority of Hyuuga who oppose Neji's takeover of the clan. Her emphasis is stepped up after the above-mentioned timeskip, when she starts training harder to become a young but powerful fighter in her own right, and transitions from a bystander to a ninja of the resistance. Naturally, she is at odds with Neji on the occasions in which they come into contact, and in her determination to restore order to the Hyuuga Clan, her goal is to kill him (as opposed to Hinata's goal of bringing peace to the clan without killing him).

Her primary interactions are with Sasuke, Kiba, Sakura, Chouji, Konohamaru, and the small band of Hyuuga (poorly drawn here... [link] ) that has sworn to defend her. The Hyuuga's faith in and dedication drive her to be a reluctant type of leader, but cause her to become strong.

Sorry for such a long explanation. I'm quite bad at explaining things quickly But I wanted to give you an honest picture of Hanabi's role in the story. The story is a long one, so I'd hate for you to read it and be disappointed. Basically, if you're interested in seeing Hanabi developed as a character and doing something other than being the pretentious, privileged kid many write her as, I don't think you'll be disappointed, but the amount of focus on the other characters might frustrate you; I can't be sure. On the other hand, if your only interest is in the pairing of Naruto and Hanabi, it's honestly not going to happen, unfortunately.

I hope I answered your question, and if you have any more, feel free to let me know. I'll try not to talk for weeks ^^

No need to apologize for giving me a thorough answer. As a huge Hanabi fan, I'm happy to see her featured in any number of roles, and while I do prefer to see her paired with Naruto, given how rarely that actually happens I can't hold it not happening in your story against you (or the story). I didn't mean to suggest that I'd only be interested if there was NarutoxHanabi action, just that I wanted to know ahead of time about the nature of their relationship before I got started into what looks like a well-written tale. I find that, as a reader, I enjoy a story more if I have even a rough idea what to expect. And as an author, I feel that it is my duty to help my readers set their own expectations appropriately, even if I only do so in generalized terms so as not to spoil the later bits.

And as a beta, I'm over all quite impressed by the quality of your writing just in this reply message (and in the explanation text for this and the linked Hyuuga resistance picture). Your sentence structure is impeccable, and only the rarest of typos tried (rather unsuccessfully) to mar the text. Kudos.

So yeah, thanks to your response, I do believe I'll go ahead and put the story on my Nook and read it at work. If that sounds weird, I understand, I just don't have as much time when I'm not at work to get any good reading done.

It's refreshing to see other Hanabi fans ^^ She might not even say ten words in canon, but I still feel like she's an interesting character to explore, and doesn't get enough love.

Neither reading on a Nook nor reading at work sound strange... Work was a key place for reading and homework-starting for me, during the school year at least

Well, if my grammar receives a passing preliminary grade, I hope the content of the story itself doesn't disappoint. The fic certainly has its flaws, and can be a little rough around the edges, but I hope you're able to enjoy it!

Haha, we all make mistakes! I'm not going to judge a chat message too harshly though I do obsessively check over my own messages as well, and still miss mistakes. Heck, I didn't have the use/conjugations of 'lay' and 'lie' straight until a couple of years ago. Pretty egregious, right?
