Flag of the House of Hapsburg.This flag was effectively used as the flag of the Hapsburg Monarchy, Austria (referring to the the Austrian Empire an unofficial term for the empire led by the rulers of the Archduchy of Austria) and Austria-Hungary. However in Austria-Hungary, Hungary had its own national flag while the red-white-red flag of the Arch Duchy of Austria was increasingly becoming a national symbol for the whole of the lands controlled outside of Hungary that were considered Austrian. A now popularly known merchant ensign was designed that had the red-white-red Austrian colours and red-white-green Hungarian colours.
