I'm not quite sure how to put it but as you improve the pictures become softer looking. Just something I randomly noticed.

Softer?
Well, I do use soft-shading for skin and, sometimes, clothing, but... And while in this particular case the 'shadows' aren't all that sharp, that's not always the case. Plus, for everything else - primarily, hair - I use cell-shading. IMO, it looks better that way. Might be just me, though...
