Description A batch of eight cloth pads I made. I'm SO proud of the results I'm getting.

I sell these on my little livejournal store: [link] for $8 or 3/$20.

Question - why not white ones?

Also, great idea. I use a menstrual cup myself, though. Got any ideas for a menstrual cup bag? Gotta keep it somewhere dust-free when I'm not menstruating.

I just didn't have white material, tbh. I just used what I picked up.

And I could make one, it'd be easy enough.

I think this idea is great... much like cloth diapers.
But I'll have to say that the pattern on the fabrics, cute as they are, are going to waste (though I'm really loving the black ones)-- I would think you'd have to bleach them after use... otherwise it would not be thoroughly disinfected, and look pretty brownish/yellowy because of the bloodstains.

What I would like to know is: How do they hold up to night wear? Do they slip and bunch... and possibly spill a little? This is why I find that time of the month to be so much more annoying.
Also the bulkyness of them... do they protrude a lot? Like if you're a tight skirt wearer like me, would it look like you have something on your butt or look like you have an "extra part" on the front?
And how do they stand up to heavy flows?
Wouldn't it absorb a hella more with quilted fabric?

Anywho, sorry for bombarding you with questions and a really lengthy comment, hehe... I'm really interested in this-- I'd really like to make some, but not before knowing my Q's

holls In reply to Delectable-Decadence [2008-04-18 13:04:52 +0000 UTC]

actually, you don't have to bleach them, and I actually recommend you don't. Just wash them in hot water. I use Purex Free detergent, and no fabric softener, and they turn out quite nice.

They hold up pretty good at night, I don't find they slip or anything, but I use a double lined pad at night, and I've only had very minor leaks and spills (about the same, maybe even less than with a normal pad). And they're not too thick or bulky, no, especially if you use a single lined pad. I do recommend a double pad for your heavier days though. And it's actually lined with towel, so if you wanted something more absorbant, you'd probably be best off finding a hemp material or fleece or something to line it with. Look up stuff on cloth diapers, that's your best bet.

And no problem, I hope I helped!

Seriously though...how long does it take you to make these?

I wanna buy them. >< But I don't have a credit card.

Thanks!

They don't take too long, actually. The sewing machine makes it rather quick.

And can you send a money order?

Oh, so you use the machine. ^^ Very nice.

Possibly. But I don't have much money anyways. But they're very cute.

If you want a cheaper, natural alternative to tampons, go with a diva cup!

I find these really interesting.
Doesn't the pretty cloth get stained? (seriously. I don't know if blood stains or not)
What do you do with it in the middle of the day - you know... when you need a change?
How does it keep from leaking?

I'm very intrigued now...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

holls In reply to TheHollister [2007-03-20 15:39:50 +0000 UTC]

Not if you rinse/wash them right away, and you can use an old pencil case.

They last a LOT longer and absorb way more than Always or any of those too!

What's in the middle, =holls? Is it flannel too? Or something more absorbent like towelling?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

holls In reply to LaMorocha66 [2007-02-01 05:14:32 +0000 UTC]

flannel outer, plus terrycloth and PUL (waterproof stuff) inside
