Description This is a very, very late project for HL Art.
(Wes is a little taller than I think he should be though (though I might keep it that way ))
It is also an excuse to talk about Wesley and R.J.'s school experience.

For R.J., almost none of his stress comes from his job as a superhero.
Sure, he'll get in a few tight spots here and there, and he'll be stressed out enough to want to do a good job being a hero, but it's never something that causes him to lose sleep or have anxiety attacks.

He gets all his stress from school.
He's hated it ever since he was 12, when he first transferred into Writhen Middle in the 7th grade.
Being the lovable Asperger child he is, he found it hard to interact socially with his peers, especially because he found the behavior of most of his classmates to be disrespecful, juvenile, and at times abhorrent.
He also got (compared to his peers) abnormally stressed over tiny changes in the school schedule, couldn't look people in the eyes, didn't get the sarcasm and other social lingo of others, and also showed his habit of rocking back and forth to calm himself in class (a common trait among Aspies).
All this put off his peers, who could immediately tell that something was off about him, and as a result R.J. became even more bent on avoiding social contact than he was before.

He wasn't exactly bullied until he and Carver Wilson (the intolerant blonde jock in the comic) met in 8th grade, and Carver not only noticed traits of R.J.'s autism but also of his homosexuality (because he discovered at a young age that he was homosexual, R.J. avoided changing in the same room with all the other boys and avoided them at other times too).
Carver, being from a VERY conservative family where homosexuality was looked down upon as immoral and emasculating, took this as an excuse to bully R.J., and has continued to do so every year of school since.
Carver also hates how intellgient R.J. is as well, and bullies him for that reason too.

R.J. knows he can't physically fight back because he doesn't want his secret getting out and because he knows the school doesn't encourage it, but he also doesn't know how to defend himself verbally, and thus doesn't know how to deal with Carver's abuse.
R.J. considers Carver his true archenemy, and hates him with a passion.

The situation does get better when Wesley and R.J. meet, since Wesley is good with verbal smack and knows how to throw Carver off, but every once in a while Wesley won't be quick enough to get between R.J. and Carver before something happens.
Plus in a way Wesley makes it worse because although they never admit that they are in a relationship to their classmates (just for the sake of protecting their identities), they're so loving in their actions and they spend so much time together that people assume that they're in a relationship anyways

But anyway, yeah, that's what's happening here.
It actually made me feel bad to write that word that Carver says.
This is how I know I can never say anything worse than "damn" and "ass" for cuss words.

But I'm glad it's finally done. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW LONG I WORKED ON THIS I HAD TO RESTART SO MANY TIMES AKFJHJKDGHABHGJSFDKBJK

Oh, and I tried out a way of showing Wesley running.
He's sort've like the Powerpuff Girls in that he creates a streak of red behind him when he runs (as speedsters do in my stories ).
I don't think I'm going to outlines that one part in pink again though. It looks a little weird to me

Anyway, I have one more BlueJay comic I need to finish and put on here, then I need to work on two things for school.

This is definitely one of your more emotional, serious pieces for Wesley and R.J. I applaud you for letting us peek behind-the-scenes and into Wesley and R.J.'s life under the cape. It's always refreshing knowing we can relate to the characters, and makes them seem all the more real. I think we all need that reminder sometimes.

I also love some of the subtle touches in this piece that make it what it is. The dialogue is right on, and I find R.J.'s last line simultaneously bitter and inspiring. The lighting of the first panel is also very...how do I say it?...beautiful, I suppose. I love the way the red touches the edges of the people. The blurred background in the first panel, R.J.'s face in the third panel, it all really speaks to me.

Thanks for this incredible-ness.

Ummm...(I'm making this up on the spot BTW)

Beck Reynolds-
Hair: Sandy Brown (hairstyle sort've like this ([link] ))
Skin: Caucasian (healthy tan with freckles)
Personality: He's just a jock to please his dad. He'd rather be an english major. He's sort've a shrimp compared to the other jocks in terms of body size. He usually either invents an excuse or stops Carver from bullying R.J. outright. He, Wesley, and R.J. are on better terms than the rest of the jocks

Garrett Sparks-
Hair: bleached blonde (spiked up([link] )
Skin: A little darker than Beck's but it's not a fake tan, it's his actualy color.
He actually gets darker in the summer
Personality: He loves being a jock and the stereotype that comes with it. He is Carver's BFF and sometimes is more aggressive in his bullying of R.J. He's not very smart (like Carver), and this allows him to easily be swayed by both Beck and Carver's arguements.

Heath Tomms-
Hair: Black ([link] )
Skin: healthy color, but he looks more close to a peachy hue then his friends.
Personality: Heath is the most apathetic one of the group. He doesn't really care about anyone, and just hangs around with Carver because he's sort've a sadist and likes it when Carver bullies R.J.

Skyler Williams-
Hair: Dirty Brown ([link] )
Skin: Healthy tan, I suppose
Personality: Skyler is the manslut of the school who sleeps around with everyone (even guys). He keeps his bisexuality hidden by helping Carver bully R.J., when in reality he really doesn't have much against R.J. actually finds him to be a cutie. He's a natural flirt and uses the guise of taunting R.J. to flirt with him.

Sorry if Skyler's a little weird but I find it hilarious that one person in the group secretly has the hots for R.J. and just can't admit it.
These aren't that well-developed and they might change in the future, but it's all I can come up with for now.

This is actually very moving, and I love how you draw this. In my opinion if I had seen R.J. rocking back and forth, I would probably ask if he was okay. I'm one of those people who won't care if you do stuff that's "strange" because honestly I don't rock back and forth but I have the problem of not keeping still in class. I have to be moving or else I feel like somethings wrong.

I understand what he's going through as well, I've been bullied since I was three years old, so I'm practically used to it. Another reason why I understand what he's going through (and what those who have Asperger Syndrome) is for the fact I have a friend who has Autism. She's always been bullied since she came to my elementry school and because I became friends with her, it caused me to be somewhat of the center of bullying when it came to her. I stuck up for her a lot and tried to cheer her up a lot. (the only difference between her and other people with autism is that she loves hugs XD)

If I were in the situation, were Carver pushed him to the locker I would have gone to the nearest teacher and told them, that and I would've made sure R.J. was okay. Even if R.J. was real I probably try to be his friend, I can deal with a lot when it comes to trying to be friends with someone (the reason why I normally try to make friends with people is because I've been used as someone and I have the bad habit of being very protective of them and get very worried about them).

I usually read comic panels and just go on, but I couldn't help but drool and look at all the detail in that first one. Pure genius, seriously, the light, colours, line art, everything! I'd love to see more of your night!crime fighting work, it's so vibrant and Bat-sy.

Also, RJ's face in the third panel. Perfect.

Poor R.J....It must have been so hard, saving someone you hate and knowing they were going to torment you the next day. I used to get bullied a lot in elementary school, and if it weren't for my best friend, who knows how I would have turned out. Sometimes the anger just takes over and it's really hard to not retaliate physically, but you usually don't and just retreat farther and farther into your own little world unless there's someone there to help you. It's good to see R.J. has someone like that in his life.

OMG! I'm an Aspie too! Got diagnosed when I was 12, everything made SOOOOOO much more sense after that.
You know, I too often looked at my peers in Middle School and thought, 'My God, do these hooligans even realize how pathetically immature they are acting?' I often entertained the thought that I was an alien that accidentally got left behind after a survey team left Earth. XD I just couldn't comprehend how humans could behave in the ways they did and not find any of it wrong.
I love being an Aspie simply because it gives me a unique perspective on humanity. I've managed to mostly conquer my learning problems but I find that my Asperger's is making it difficult for me to determine and understand my sexuality. Right now I can't decide if I'm bi (b/c I can find & appreciate beauty in both gender's) or if I'm asexual (b/c I find the act of sex to be messy and disgusting).
-_-; You win some, you lose some.

I was diagnosed when I was 12 as well, and that's exactly how I used to look at my peers in middle school (except I never thought I was alien).
I love being as Aspie too, and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
I used to wonder abotu my sexuality too until my mother told me that being attracted to the female form is the same no matter what your sex is.
Your sexuality is determined by if you feel attracted enough to have sex with that gender primarily because a person is that gender, which I definitely don't (I found out I just like feminine-built guys).

He recognizes that Carver is ignorant but keeps fighting anyway.

I think it's so great that you gave such great depth to your characters. I don't think any comment I can write will give this justice. I read your description, and that just made me want to hug RJ, but at the same time, I don't know how I'd react to someone that actually acted the way he does. I... To be honest would probably be weirded out if anybody were to rock in class or get stressed over schedule changes (but I'd totally agree with the juvenile comment since that's how I feel about practically any of my math classes.) but you see, I'd be weirded out a bit, and wouldn't make the effort to be friends. Although, if he were to talk to me I'd talk back. I'd never bully him over his behavior. Or sexuality, or just him in general. Carver's being a humongous idiot here! If you don't like the kid, then don't talk to him! There's no reason to make his life hell.

But that brings up something else to me. Those people on the sidelines. If I were one of them, I don't know how I'd react to the bullying right in front of me. To be absolutely honest, I probably would pretend I'd never seen it and just keep walking. I'm not good in those types of situations. Although, then I'd also probably get mad at myself and go back to see if he (RJ) was alright. But yeah, you bring a topic I find very controversial to myself. I've never been bullied, and I've never had it happen in front of me. So I have no idea how to react.
