Alternate Title: "Shit, let's be Roronoa Zoro."Her wings are white because bright green looked AWFUL with that color scheme. We can just pretend this is seconds before she starts powerspamming.
Fun fact: I started coloring this in Painter, got frustrated with it, and stormed back to Photoshop. I'M SURE IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM...

To be quite honest, PM is my favorite character and I even roleplay her somewhere, so I've spent an embarrassing amount of time meditating on her limited appearances in the comic. Even as early as August of last year, before we knew the Bec prototyping ([link] ), I had felt like it was a possibility, and as time went on, I became 90% certain that she would wear it. My convictions got to the point where I was going to cry character derailment if she stayed on the sidelines for the entire ending. Hussie has been dropping little hints the entire comic, and WV doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would be willing to go into battle--nightmares relating to being prototyped or not.
I won't detail all the reasons and hints why I assumed this would be the outcome (though I don't think anyone could have predicted how heart-breakingly tragic it was) but I am pretty glad that my favorite is getting to shine.

Same here! I had this huge feeling PM would play a vital role later in the comic even at first (even from how Jack half-assedly gave her the regisword and seemed to ALWAYS spare her, lots of times, along with all those subtle clues.) WV is also a favorite of mine, but I knew from the nightmare sequence that he definitely wouldn't wear the ring at any cost. PM was the only viable candidate for it, but I didn't really see it coming this soon.
I'd rage if PM always had to stay in the sidelines too, given her character and all. Comparing her with almost everyone, even if the carapace people say nothing, I mean look at her, she's almost pawn-like in rank, but definitely refuses to just be the pawn.
The circumstances DID take me quite in surprise though - I couldn't even see the White Queen's plans coming, but that may have been since I really don't see much of her, and it was barely shown prior to Cascade. I figured WV may soon die, but I didn't see it coming in... such a gruesome manner. D:

I have to agree. She always was and is my favorite, even when I was only into Homestuck for the music (and had a sparing amount of appreciation for the rest of it in the first 2 acts.)
I mean, anyone who actually bothers to look into her character will notice that she had been well done, and makes for the most surprise in the story.

I like the way the Battleground seems to ripple under her feet, it helps give that impression that space makes allowances for HER, not the other way around.
Also, my jaw literally dropped when I noticed Jack reflected in the swords. You, sir and/or madam, are amazing.

Oh I love this idea. PM was badass enough when she was just a mail carrier, but seeing as the White Queen saw fit to let her be the new Prospitian Monarch...I'd say I would totally be down with this shit, seriously.
Also, the pose is fantastic, and I love the dynamic angle of looking right up her blade. Hell, I'd suggest exaggerating it even further to up the badass quotient even further. Just make the very tip much bigger and play with the foreshortening of the blade some more, and I think it'll look even more awesome.

Thanks for the concrit! I don't know if I'll change the image to implement your suggestions (depends on how much time and inclination I have, I suppose?), but it's certainly an excellent idea. If nothing else, I'll keep that in mind should I use a similar angle in future works.

I'm pretty sure my fine art professors would have nailed me to the wall for using the method I did to achieve that effect.
Photoshop's variable opacity brush on 50% opacity to paint everything in + a texture layer set to Soft Light on top of the color layers.
