Description
Last high king of the Noldor.Some experimentation with watercolor and inks. This photo really does not do justice to the metallic gold ink. Other than that, I am really happy with the line art of this piece, but struggled a bit with the coloring. I probably could have prevented that with some color studies, but I got impatient.

the black is india ink. Although its possible if you paint right out of the tube, watercolors don't like to do darks that dark.

I thought it might be acrylic or an ink pen. I had no idea India ink was able to be that dark without oversaturating the page.

i think it depends on the ink. I'm usinig dr. ph. martins bombay, but i've also used higgins caligraphy ink. Higgins isn't as dark, and its more watery, so I can see why you might have wondered

It's very elegant. I'm not quite sure what the gold bits around/on his torso are. Are they armor?

They're armor bits attached to the gauntlets. I feel like If I'd added similarly shaped shoulder guards it would have been more obvious.
