So women are being paid marginally less than men. Their lives sound tragic. But don't worry, I'm going to go over to Baghdad and tell the women there exactly how bad women here have it compared to them.

Wage gap ain't real.
The only reason women are paid 20 cents or so less than men is because men are statistically more likely to do more overtime, take less time off work, etc. Milo Y. did a debate on this, youtube is a helpful tool.

My mother told me that the reason that men get paid more than women is because more often than not, for a long time, they have worked harder than women. Not fully sure if this is true, but either way, I'll still support the plea for equal pay.
I also saw some Twitter tweet from someone known as "Mind blowing facts" who said that the only profession where women get paid more than men is pornography. I told this to my mother, and she only told me that men get paid way more than women in pornography. Which one of these could be true?

It is true, men are more likely to do overtime, ask for promotions and take less time off etc.

It's a common myth that women are paid less than men. They are not. At least not in the legal part of the job market. The statistics showing that women generally have less money than men is because women pursue different carieres than men, and many of these pay less.
The real problem on the working market is, that men has a higher chance of being hired than women (no matter if the boss is a male or female) because woman has the chance of getting pregnant and will not be able to work in that time. This is what we should be focused on solving.

I agree with you except for that last sentence. I think you'll find that hiring rates for women went up after the start of the recession while male hiring rates declined.

Actually when people say women are payed less than men, they refer to anually. This is due to the fact that women are more likely to take time off to spend with kids (or have them) and are more likely to refuse working overtime because they have things to worry about at home that men dont, like making dinner, taking care of the kids, do the groceries.
So really what you should be promoting is equal imput in family life and chores from men and women. We are past the time when women do the cooking and look after the kids and men just work. If you want real equlaity it shouldnt just be money, but also responsibility at home.

sorry, wage gap has been disproven. but thanks to the equal pay act of 1963, you can feel free to report and/or sue the company that underpays women for the same job as men
