I like to try and get that creepy industrial feel with abandoned places. I could do the straight shot but I like the drama.

Industrial places that are abandoned carries a lot of "life" even
if they are empty, so it's all there if you want to see it

HDR is high dynamic range.
Take three or more identical shots of the same subject at different exposures and then combine them and then tone map the final image. One can get some very cool effects. The idea is it pulls out detail that is not normally available.
