Description Many hours, many effort, many learning. I think it's good if you thinks I'm just starting this kind of CG, I could have been doing things like this quite a while ago if I weren't a lazy-ass bastard; but many young and skilled people here on DA made me open my eyes and finally I realized that I won't get any better just sitting and playing videogames all day long.

Entry for figure drawing contest.

I know exactly how you feel, I've been working on drawing since I was 22, but now that I'm 30, I realize that I should've put more time into practicing over these past eight years. I really need to keep at it.

At any rate, you did really well here, I like this one a lot.

No, you dont.

Get used to pencil shading, when you are skilled in that then you can start thinking of getting a tablet.

Very nice character design ^^. I like it... especially her clothes XDD. Her anatomy is not bad... but there are some details like knees and hands where you need to improve yourself ^^... I think there is only one good advice that I can give you... Try to get some good anatomy books like Der Nackte Mensch (Gottfried Bammes) because those books that you have are simply not enough... (try p2p eDonkey ^^)

I have already downloaded quite good drawing books, but I have not started to learn from them yet.

I will do so now, I will quit CG for a while and just do pencil shading.

Nice one Good work on the lightning. It suits this style, although I don't like the breasts they might appeal to someone so I wont crit on them. Also the head is a bit too small for the body

The head is not small, the legs are too long...

Wow realy good job! It looks like you put a lot of time into this pic. I like the hair and the over all feel. Im not so sure about your shadows and highlights. You seem to show a secont lighting source on her body with the highlights but not in the background. i have spent a lot of time just trying to get my lighting right so things like that stand out to me.

Oh and what programs did you use for this pic?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Horizon-Hold In reply to benzod32 [2006-09-24 05:25:12 +0000 UTC]

Now that you mention it, when I was working on it I knew something was wrong, but now that I look at it the lighting is a complete mess, there's ligth coming from everywhere LOL.

Next time I will make a quick B/W to plan the ligths and shadows, I will do it just like I said I would in my previous pick....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

benzod32 In reply to Horizon-Hold [2006-09-25 02:43:35 +0000 UTC]

Thats a good Idea. I always plan out my lighting right after I put down my flats. This is still a good pic and most people I dont think would even notice the lighting but I look for that kind of thing. I would like to try to paint well enough to get rid of the lines in a pic. Not sure if Im at that level yet. Maybe I should try.

I need to learn to use layers so my CGing can get a little better. That, and get a tablet >.o; Having to make sure the scan settings are perfect on each individual, unique pic is irritating.

If you are low on cash buy a Genius tablet like mine, it's not a wacom but it does the job.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SeruOmen In reply to Horizon-Hold [2006-09-24 03:35:22 +0000 UTC]

Is it really worth it though? The only thing I even know how to use layers for is for watermarks, so I'm not sure I'd even use the tablet to its full potential.

Browse the web for more detailed ones, also download photoshop tutorials about making interfaces and special efects, these ones will help you understand photoshop more.

Also, tablets have limitless potential, as much as everyone of us have...

I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro... and the layers options on that program SEEM to be mostly like Photoshop, but for some reason don't quite work the same. Not to mention, since I scan my drawings, it makes it difficult to, say, make a background and a foreground on different layers. It means it would require two completely different scans, that I'd hafta get the settings just right for...

Gah, now I'm just making excuses >_<;

Horizon-Hold In reply to SeruOmen [2006-09-24 05:35:35 +0000 UTC]

I don't know Paint Shop Pro.

If you used Photoshop I could help you.

Why don't you put a patch in your eye, play the bucaneer and get Photoshop in the old underground way?

Wow, that's a very nice coloring, what I like the most about it is the hair and how it seems to flow with the wind. Although I think the lines should be soften a little bit, but besides that I see a lot of potential if you keep practicing more. You're doing great!

Horizon-Hold In reply to diablata [2006-09-23 21:45:36 +0000 UTC]

The ink lines or the hair lines?

diablata In reply to Horizon-Hold [2006-09-23 21:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, the hair is completely fine, I meant the black lines especially in the skin, I think it'd look so much nicer if they were soften ^^.

I will try to remove entirely the original lines in the near future.
