"Point" by:

"I am going to pull your endocrine system out of your body...and make a hat out of it."
-- Gary Busey

Okay, so this Dr. Ryan picture was actually drawn Spring 2011 after my friend Rebecca (who sat next to me all that semester. I was the only one who could keep her half-way focused on our still life projects and vice-versa) suggested I do more perspective and full body pictures since (at the time) my art binder was mostly bust and head shots. So, I found myself a spiffy reference and drew this up. Rebecca actually clapped when she saw this. ^.^;

I needed some tablet practice and found the original lines in My Scans folder, so I decided to colour them up. Besides, I never reached my Dr. Ryan quota last year, so this counts as part of my old 2011 quota. I still have two more Dr. Ryan pics to submit, one needs colouring and the other is a traditional piece (done in H pencil, Prismacolour Pencils, watercolour, and India Ink) that's just too frakking big for my scanner, and scanning it in pieces won't work. ^.^;

Originally, Ryan was originally going to be yelling "Winning" but that's...kind of old and overdone now. But Gary Busey NEVER gets old, and Ryan really would pull out some poor sap's endocrine system...and make a hat out of it.

Much like his son-in-law Alexi Jiang being Herbert West, Dr. Ryan IS Gary Busey...or at least NeverRealms equivalent.

Unlike Gary Busey, I'm sure Dr. Ryan would actually do it.

Precisely.

I wouldn't put it past Busey though.

I love the face, the pose and the perspective! This would work very well as a promo of sorts, perhaps promoting an event in the NeverRealms universe
at the quote!

Heehee, maybe change it to blue lighting, throw in a spacey background and keep the caption? It's not a NeverRealms promo unless there's blue glowy shit involved.

BAM perspective! isn't that pretty... where have you been Doctor! We have missed you so!
the Docs hair is looking pretty mad here, is it just me or is it getting bigger and angrier with every picture XD
I such balls at perspective I should try more of that, I noticed I tend to draw the same poses every time since I just sit down and draw without refrance I draw the same 3 stock poses over and over without realising it AAARRGH and that makes for a booring gallery so WHOO!
moar doctor!

HotaruThodt In reply to IvoryFool [2012-02-06 03:12:13 +0000 UTC]

You're not the only one who missed Ryan. I missed working with him.
It might just be the colouring since the monitor I'm using now is A LOT darker than Dante's old monitor. I'm seeing all kinds of mistakes in older art now. ^.^;
Well, you coould always rptin yourself up some reference photos to take to work with you and look over and draw.
I have one more digital Ryan pic from last year to colour and "Dr. Fireman" which I need to ask my art teacher to take photos of since it's too big to fit into my scanner even in pieces. >.O;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IvoryFool In reply to HotaruThodt [2012-02-06 07:50:30 +0000 UTC]

meh the Doctor will evolve over time anyhew, just because he has stopped aging doesn't mean his appearence won't shift overtime.
I don't like to use refrances XD I just need to remind myself to stop drawing the same three poses O.O; I do it on automatic.
Dr.Fireman O.o?
oh yeah I read the 3rd Abarat...uh arabat? ...whatever, Clive Barker book, it was fat and kinda confusing, he's making two more apparently... I thought this one was going to be a big climactic war... but, well I don't want to spoil it for you.
where book two puts all the characters in thier places and has a few charming little random side stories... this one also seems to be full of small little stories of intrest andone loosly assembled over arching plot that I'm not really sure what to make of, I was really excited about it but now it's happend and I don't know if it's because he's trying to make a childrens book and thus not be too scary or what, it's very odd... I have very little to say about it T.T

HotaruThodt In reply to IvoryFool [2012-02-06 20:53:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know. I think his hair and face stitching had changed the most over time. When I first designed him in 2004, his hair was just past his jaw and a lot tamer then it is now and his face stitching has gotten most detailed...and is never drawn the same way twice. For the most part his wardrobe is the same though. Not sure if I'll give him clothing change for Terminus.
Yeah, Dr. Fireman is a pic I drew in Drawing II class last semester where we drew two words out of a cup and drew a picture based on said two words. I got "Exuberant" and "Fireman" and wound up drawing Ryan is a kinky fireman-type outfit.
Maybe Mr. barker is scared of the backlash parents will give him if he makes the story too dark? I know Thief of Always (my introduction to Barker back in middle school) was a a book for "young readers" and was a lot darker than Abarat, which seems to be held back.
But yeah don't spoil it for me too much (I've spoiled a few things for myself to begin with). I plan to replace my lost copy of the first book and get the other two at some point. ^.^;
I heard Disney was going to make a series of Abarat movies. Barker said he wanted to finish the series before than came to be though. ^.^;

IvoryFool In reply to HotaruThodt [2012-02-07 07:26:24 +0000 UTC]

perhaps every time he regenerates he's just a teeny weeny bit different and it's starting to add up XD
Exuberant fireman *o*; thats terrible, I would have just drawn a massive ejaculating cock XD superhigh detail popping veins!
naaah he's not that kinda guy to worry about those things, im not sure what's going on... it's all just so ...blah... there's lots of good little bits but if I had to tell you what was going on in the story at this point I'm not sure I could, also I obviously forgot allot of what happened in the second book because the third keeps refrancing things I barely remember, and there were so many awesome villians in the first and second book who I really enjoyed, but now they are gone too, and I find myself wondering if half of the stuff in the books is really relivant to the actual story, It's all really fun stuff but if you tried to make a movie of the main story you would have to cut 90% of the book to actually see the main story.
and It leaves me wondering if the main story is worth seeing after the horror that was "The Golden Compass" ripping all the pacing and darkness out of "His dark materials" the mind boggles *.*;;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HotaruThodt In reply to IvoryFool [2012-02-07 13:55:54 +0000 UTC]

Now that is a possibility. Do you think he should have a different outfit for Terminus or do you think he should stick with his cartoon characteresque style and has multiple copies of the same outfit in his closet?
Well, I don;t think I could have gotten away with ejaculating cock, although Ryan did look like he was getting ready to free willy in the picture.
I really enjoyed the first book, but I read that book II is pretty lacking in places, and now I hear Book III is even more lacking? Damn. ^.^;
I only vaguely remember watching the Golden Compass myself so I don't remember much about it. ^.^;
Americans de-dark things for the kiddies dont'cha know.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IvoryFool In reply to HotaruThodt [2012-02-07 14:11:35 +0000 UTC]

Ryan strikes me as the kind of guy to have a wardrobe full of the same stuff, since worrying about what he's going to wear is a pain but there's no reason why he can't have a few different outfits *shrug*
really? we were encouraged to draw that sort of thing at school ^.^;
well book 2 was like putting all the characters in thier places, and book three was the big scary conclusion to what happend in book two... but it's not a conclusion of course because he has two more books yet and it's all a bit BWAH!?! read it and see ^.^;;
zactly, it sucked >.<
but kiddies LOVE the dark!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HotaruThodt In reply to IvoryFool [2012-02-07 15:53:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, he does have hus Nurse's Uniform, his Mileena cosplay and his AK outfits for starters, although the first and last are the only ones that are really canon to begin with.

I think I'll get the books when I get my finaid.
Of course kiddies love the dark, but parents are overly protective. Hell, my first semester in Psychology this one woman was talking about how her daughter was terrified of TOY STORY! Toy Story? Seriously? O.O;

IvoryFool In reply to HotaruThodt [2012-02-07 16:03:10 +0000 UTC]

are you suggesting his wardrobe is full of kinky cosplay? ^.^; oh mellisa XD

well kids get scared of simple things, my friends kids where horrified by the soot sprites from spirited away... the soot sprites, she has to check under the bed to make sure thier are none hiding there ¬.¬;

Oh lord the soot sprites? O.O;
