Did you ask the Utica Zoo staff to take a shot like that? I visit the utica zoo quite a bit, but I've never gotten to take an up close and personal shot like that. I can only get photos from above.

I actually took it through the fence from the platforms as well. Sometimes I sit down on the platforms to let a lower level perspective when there aren't many people at the zoo. It helps that I have a lens with a strong zoom. Some of my photos have actually been used by the gift shop there but I don't think they'd ever let people in with them or close to the wolf fence since NY state has very strict laws regarding wolves.

I'm originally from that area and I visit the zoo still when I'm home visiting my family sometimes. It's a really nice place.
I think I was probably using my mom's camera at the time, which is a Canon Rebel T2i with her 250mm lens.

It is nice. I live in the neighboring town, which I shall call NH for privacy.
I'll have to take a look at that camera, the shot is stunning.
