No problem! It just supports the thought that inspiration can come from anywhere.

The main thing I think about this is that it doesn't stand out to me. The contrast is not strong, and her skin and the details of her eyes blends in, and I think, shadows some of the hidden emotion that you try to capture. Compositionally, I think you should have mirrored it so that our eyes are led to her instead of being stopped, and this kind of leads to people wondering if the cropping is right and so on. I think the subject is beautiful, and her expression is cute, but this particular photo really isn't the strongest of your work.

What a beautiful photo. the piercings really accent her face. Some people don't wear their piercings well, they don't acclimate well to their features. Her piercings are really at home on her face, and they accentuate her beauty, rather than just existing with it.

Personally, Even though people would think this isn't deserving of a DD, and, personally, It's not something I'd expect to be a DD either, but it does have a nice look to it. I am disappointed that it wasn't another picture in their gallery, but still, nonetheless, it was featured, and we should appreciate the picture, and not slander the artist, as it was not her that chose to have a DD, but .
Personally, this is a fantastic picture of some apples, and I'd love for this to be featured, [link] , but that's neither here nor there. If you look through her gallery she does have some lovely works.
Although you may not appreciate it, along with others, other peoples opinions will drastically vary; people will always disagree between what is good and what is bad.

to be honest i agree with you; there are people who put far more effort and emotion into their artwork that never even get discovered, and for such a simple portrait at such a small resolution... it doesn't seem fitting to me either. just thought i'd stick up with you since everyone else is eager to attack you for disagreeing with the popular vote...

well THANK YOU! and dont worry ill just ignore those comments is sad that a critic is like a kick for some people
but be careful if ppl see this they'll start fucking with you too cuz apparently people can't take a comment that doesn't make them feel like DaVinci after death

yeah, some people don't realize that there is always
going to be both positive and negative feedback.

You are incredibly rude and naiive to assume I don't put effort and emotion into my artwork. Have you ever heard the saying "sometimes less is more"? Sometimes it really is the simple portraits that are the most beautiful, rather than busy, hyper-coloured ones. My style is very much a back to basics, raw and honest one. I don't do posed photography. I have a general idea of where I want a shoot to go, but I go with the vibes of my models - I use their emotions as much as I can.
It's also "such a small resolution" because the full scale photos go to my models and in my main portfolio, and this is not my main portfolio. I cannot display my main work on here because of legalities and permissions because I work with some big names in the music industry as a live music photojournalist.
Tell me again I don't put in effort.

i never said that you didn't put effort and emotion into your artwork. it's
just that, in my opinion, i've seen things more deserving of recognition that
never are discovered. this is just my opinion, and although photography isn't
my forte, that doesn't mean i'm not entitled to have an opinion and be able to
appreciate art as i see it. to me, i just felt like this looks very posed and
too simple, and although the model has piercings/tattoos, the photo doesn't
seem to do them justice or clearly show them although that's the category that
this was placed in.
i'm not trying to be rude here, but everyone has their own opinion. the hard part
about getting noticed is being able to accept that not everyone will share the same
views or give as positive feedback as you'd like.

Well, bring that up with the staff/moderators who select DD's. And maybe read the page on DD's and why they are chosen.
Everyone DOES have their own opinion, and they are entitled to it. Maybe I'm old fashioned in believing that being negative about something one personally doesn't like is just a waste of everyones time. As I said to the original commenter that you were replying to in agreement, art is subjective, which is the beauty of it. Not everyone will like everything. ut there is etiquette involved - namely that if you don't personally like something, move along. If my work were, simply put, shit, then I would have to expect comments of "your work is shit". And I am always more than happy to listen to constructive crit given by people with more experience than me.
It also wasn't at all posed. She was sitting while I was setting up, and we were talking. Funny that YOU think it looks posed, whereas many others think it's very natural and un-posed looking.

i know why DD's are chosen/have read it before. i just
don't always agree with what deviations are decided on.
oh, okay. so stating anything negative towards something
is the equal of saying it's shitty. i understand now.
i'm sorry that i think and see things differently from the general population.

None of us do necessarily agree on all pieces chosen for a DD - as I have said a few times now, art is subjective. If someone in the position to choose a DD has selected something, but you don't personally like it, that doesn't mean you should take it upon yourself to say it was undeserving. Be happy for the artist, and move on. Suggest another piece to the relevant admin for DD. Whatever. Etiquette.
Generally, saying something negative is the polite way of saying "your work is shit", especially when it's not followed by something positive. Which your comment wasn't. So, it would be safe to assume that without saying something like "I don't think it deserved a DD, but it's nice work none the less", that the work is seen as shit... If you didn't see it that way, a positive comment would have been added, as someone else did - and even took the time to go through my gallery, and point out some stronger work.
Seeing things differently to the masses isn't a bad thing. I don't see things the same was as the general population either. All I'm saying is that when a large number of people like something, there is probably a good reason for it.

Really? You're questioning it?
The thing about art, is that it is subjective. You don't have to personally like everything you see, as not one of us ever do. But there is some etiquette you'd do well to observe. It's not YOUR place to leave negative or smartass feedback. If you don't personally like it, say nothing, and move on. If something needs more technical work, and you are in a position to help, provide constructive criticism. However, I see that your field is not photography - so you are not in a position to provide ME with constructive crit.
Reality is mate, while I was surprised to get a DD for this, there are many more people than you who think it deserved the DD. At the time of posting this reply, 87 people had favourited it, and 30 had downloaded it.
If you have issues with the fact this got a DD for the body mod category, I suggest you take it up with ^JZino who gave this photo the DD.
Kthanx. Have a nice day.
