Some predators do not hunt for flesh. There is nourishment to be find in many things, be it the despair of the dying or the magic energies of the enchanted. Some being grew to adapt to such peculiar diets, feeding of more esoteric sources to thrive in even the most desolate of lands. Like plants that devour the sunlight, they can survive on leeching off the very lifeforce of the tiniest of beings around them or stalk the caravans of other folks to seep on their emotions. One of such creatures is highly detested Essence Tick or Flea, a vile entity that emerged when the Dreadwake spread over the northern hemisphere, clearly either made by the mutagenic touch of the unreality or just transformed by its influence on this new diet. It stalks quietly behind its chosen host – just the proximity is enough for it to start gnawing at the prey soul, slowly but surely sapping any living thing of will, of reason and of self, turning all kin into soulless husks. Some are so potent and specialized they can also swallow the spark of the Awakened, returning the sentient robots back into their empty, mechanized self. Most are fortunately hungry and impatient, and their cold pull can be felt and identified quickly enough, so a hunt and extermination can be performed. Other, older and wiser examples tend to sip upon the soul with gentle gulps, letting their shadowy influence pass unnoticed, pushed onto tiredness and other trepidations that burdens all folks in some way.
