Don't want to be a downer or anything but is there any evidence that support that the viking age people used shoes like these? If there is, I'm gonna make me a pair asap. It's just that I have never seen this type in any presentation of historical footwear. Granted, I have not read all there is about viking shoes, but I still remain a tad sceptic unless anyone can prove me wrong!

Again, no disrespect to the maker, really good handywork!

As far as I know, those are slightly pre-viking. 750 AD in Ribe (Denmark), I think.

You know how peat bogs naturally mummify and preserve everything about a body, from the body itself to the hair, clothes and shoes? Β People were thrown into peat bogs all the time, so there's a number of bodies naturally mummified this way with well-preserved clothes and shoes. Β I'm not sure what time period they were from, or if they are from the vikings in particular, but these shoes (or at least essentially identical pairs, such as the ones I have) are copied from the pattern of shoes found in peat bogs. Β I think they're probably an older design than the Viking era, but I don't actually know for sure.

I just use this ancient tub of mink oil we have for mine.

Saw the blog instructions and printed them up. The only question I have is what type of leather did you use? Veg-tanned or oil-tanned. Because I think the oil tan might hold up better, but from your pictured it looks like veg tooling leather, which can get pricey.

Thanks for showing this wonderful deviation and sharing the instructions on how to make it

I wonder if these would be Celtic apropriate ?Since the Vikings influenced celtic art so much...Id like to make tiny pairs for my sculptures. They are beautiful..more so than drawings Ive seen of those times.

I often see these on Irish dancers or Scots, though I haven't fact-checked it.

Oh hey thanks
I did some checking and read that people wore shoes similar to this for centuries so , I figured they were apropriate enogh. I used them for my Avalon Preistess and probably will again. You can see her on my blog.
The dress well I wandered from my goal, but its pretty none the less. I added touches of plaid and leine sleeves.

I can't wait to make a pair for myself, they're much simpler than I'd anticipated.

I hadnt thought of making a pair for myself, but maybe we all should think about bringing back old craft. Who needs store bought shoes?

This time I made them of clay ,but next time Im going to try a miniature pair in thin skiver.
